Curb appeal help

Just changed our garage door, replaced our rotted bow window, and changed the shutters from green to black. Any ideas to make it look a little better? It’s lacking something, looks kind of boring!

Love the black! Take shutters off bow window.

Also paint garage darker to tie in with the brick and become less prominent. Put a pretty black urn on front porch with colorful flowers.

    Landscaping. Add color.

Front door needs something. Something like this that gives some attention to the entrance. You will have to research and see what can be done with your situation.

Larger steps, it looks like one could fall off them, especially when the door is opened.

Reseal driveway and hide garbage can. Your house is lovely and just needs a few touches.

Looks much better already, although I am not a fan of the Victoria front door.

An ornamental tree in the front bed would look good.

I agree—try some landscaping. I called my local good independent garden store for referrals and found someone to hire for hourly consultations. I may hire her to help me relandscape when my big remodel is done, but in the meantime she has been able to walk around and give feedback on other things. I like to garden myself, and she’s willing to let me bounce ideas off of her etc. For me, the hourly rate was well worth it, not only in the finished result but in helping me avoiding costly planting mistakes. I have made a few gardening faux pas, planting the wrong tree and shrubs in certain places. It costs waaaaay more to remove something years down the line (and then start over) then to pay for the consultation and plant something right in the first place. Good luck w/ your project! ;)

Thanks for all the great suggestions! Driveway is going to be resealed next week, and garbage cans are usually in garage, but our old window and shutters are in the garage until we can get rid of everything this weekend. The steps are granite, and I think the picture is making them look smaller than they normally are. Painting the front door is a great idea, we will do some research on colors this weekend. We will have to wait until next to do any construction at the front door, but that’s a super idea, I love it, and think that would make a huge difference! I haven’t really added any color this year, so I’ll go on a plant binge this weekend! I did do the solar light watering can idea, so that looks cool at night. Thanks for all the great suggestions! Xx

I actually think a large black pot with taller and shorter plants should go in the space where the solar sprinkling can is. Plants will bring color and life and are showier that the kitschy sprinkling can, however cute it is!

The black looks great. I agree the garage door should blend in more so it's less of a focus. The bay window shouldn't have shutters.

Or dig out the grass there and plant a swirly ornamental evergreen or something with visual interest.

Adding some height with an ornamental tree will help break up all the horizontal lines of the home. Also adding railings or a portico to the front entry will help add some depth to the home's facade and architectural interest.

Patty! I am glad that you like it. Could you please post a finale photo?

I will!! I painted the front door over the weekend, resealed the driveway and did a little bit of planting! I have a lot more things to get done before I post the picture. Everyone’s tips got me so motivated. Xx

Final pictures! The door is actually brighter in person, it’s a little dark in the picture. I couldn’t bring myself to paint the garage door, and down the road, we will be changing the front door. I appreciate everyone’s feedback, and I’m loving how our house looks. We also got one of those fencing material to cover up our trash barrels, so I included a picture of the side of the house. I couldn’t have done this without all your wonderful feedback. It took a while, because I had to bring my mom to chemo apts, and stayed over her house for her first night of treatments, and then we were back every Friday to clean her house and take care of her yard fir her, so our house was on the back burner, but I’m thrilled with how the house looks :) so thank you, each and every one of you who took the time to give your input. ❤️

Patty you can get a square insert cut in it’s cheaper then a new door just an option as that’s what I did. And I LOVE all your changes looks wonderful. And yes down the road a new garage door would add a nice touch !! Great work
