sounds like a clay pot issue .... rather than a plant issue ...

is there anything wrong with the plant itself???

if not ... i might just wipe the exterior of the pot bottom.. with a mild bleach solution ... see if that makes a difference ... and while you are at it.. wipe out the saucer ...

i quit using clay pots a long time ago .. too many issues ...

Many of us prefer clay pots, ken.

Let's not get distracted from the issue of identifying this 'stuff'. I feel reasonably confident that it is benign fungal growth, but the description doesn't quite jive with me. That's why pictures are necessary.

Wiping it off with bleach, if that is what it is, would be a very temporary solution.....a waste of time, in other words.

ken, I know that you have never been a "let's get to the bottom of this problem" kinda guy, but let's at least make a wee effort to be detectives.

This is after a couple of days. It will eventually cover the hole completely on the outside. When I clean if off, the remaining dirt looks fine, but I suppose it could be coming from inside the plant. I guess I should just dump the dirt and repot it.
