Pinky Winky late bloomers?? Zone 4

July 15, 2018

i have 4 hydrangea in tree form. They are two years old.

2 are vanilla strawberry and 2 are Pinky Winky.

the VS aremuch more advanced than the PW.

granted the VS is getting more sun but should this make a difference. I would estimate it is about 2 weeks ahead .

both get sun but the VS gets sun earlier in the day.

thanks for any info.

My Pinky Winky typically opens flowers the very tail end of July or the first week of August, about a month after Quickfire.

Is it a problem that one is later than the other? I would think it would be an advantage as it would extend the flowering period.

Not a problem if all is ok. My first try with these so i am just asking to make sure that everything is good with them. Thanks

One (PW) can be slightly taller & earlier bloomer so don't let that surprise you. It's all a matter of genetics, soil minerals, environment, etc.

PW and VS as of today

VS.... water ban can’t water the grass

Ok, thanks. I guess my PW are fine then. Just a little slower than VS.

My PW is slower than VS too, and much much slower than QF

Yeah, my Pinky Winky's are just getting started while my Quickfire is close to finishing up.

I agree--my VS blooms earlier than PW does.

My VS also is more floriferous than PW is--though that may be because VS gets more sun.

    I just adore the paniculatas.
