The dilution rate is clearly listed on the FP label. How frequently you apply is up to you (you do not need to apply with every watering but can if you wish.) How often you water will depend on the plant, the size of the container and weather conditions so can't get very specific on that....that will be your judgment call :-))

• Monthly Feeding: Use 2 – 3 tsp. per gallon of water.

The trees I over-winter indoors under lights get 1/4 tsp/gallon every time I water. In summer, when all my trees are outdoors and temps allow, I usually fertilize weekly at twice the recommended production rate. If afternoons are in the upper 80s or 90s, I don't fertilize anything in the sun, or I'll fertilize at much lower rates - maybe 1/2 tsp/gal.

If you screened the ingredients that went into the gritty mix, it should be pretty difficult to over-water. If you didn't, make sure you're watering on an 'as needed' basis rather than a schedule. A seemingly small thing like screening makes a big difference in how much flexibility you have insofar as watering intervals. Use a piece of wood dowel rod sharpened in a pencil sharpener as a 'tell'. Stick it deep into the soil, then 'read' it to see how moist it is down there. If it comes out wet, withhold water for at least another day. The only exception to that is: If you recently root pruned, you should make a mental note of where the roots are in the container, i.e., how deep they are. Water when moisture is needed where the roots are located in the soil column.

I like to lift the pot to get a feel for the weight of the container before and after watering (or even use a digital bathroom scale)

Kind of difficult if you have big trees in big pots though.
