Need a pic. If they keep coming back that means the whole root needs to come out. Very difficult with some, they will require digging.

Thanks floral.uk - it’s definitely not from trees that were felled nor is it a maypop. We live in NE Oklahoma in the States. Here’s a pic of the yard where you can see they’re everywhere

I’m not sure what they look like when they grow taller- I do know when the yard guys treat for weeds it appears to kill the tops of the plants but don’t think their treatment gets to the roots.

I'm taking a big guess here but that black hole in the middle of all those shoots looks like there was a tree there once and all those shoots are suckers trying to resprout from the original tree roots.

You could spray them with Ortho Poison Ivy and Brush Killer. That should do it.

Actually the ‘black hole’ is a valve to shut off certain areas of our sprinklers. I wondered when I uploaded that pic if it might confuse anyone. Good catch and thanks.

we’re sitting in the backyard right now and I think my husband hit on what this ‘weed’ might be - our neighbors have a ferocious vine growing on their side of our fence and we think it’s from their vine. We’re good friends so we’re going to talk to them about removing it. Then we’ll have to see how to get rid of the underground root systems.

Maybe not maypop, but still looks and suckers like a Passiflora. If you post this on the Name That Plant Forum you should get better results.
