someone paid X amount of money.. to TC a batch ... and when that batch runs out... it is usually gone ... unless you have someone who field grows plants .. and sells divisions ...

usually.. its not worth investing a couple grand.. in a new batch ...

its the typical.. the new ones drive the market ....

I heard through the grapevine that it doesn't TC well.

It's also a patented plant, which means you have to get permission (and pay) to have it propagated. Since there were so many off-types in the TC batch(es) run earlier, the patent-holder (Walters Gardens) isn't running any more batches, for now, at least.
Its patent status also means no one can legally sell you a plant that didn't come directly from the licensed batches. No divisions of existing plants.

Rob Mortko mentioned, in his talk he gave this spring, that he recieved permission to TC Goodness Gracious. I think you may see it in limited quantities in a year or two. He also said that there is a high rate of failure so the purchaser would have to pay for all and cull the duds out themselves.

Rob sounded really pleased about doing T.C. work for several nurseries, including big guns like Proven Winners. The down side is he sold the retail part of Made in the Shade to make time for the lab.

If you can find Goodness Gracious, it's a great hosta. It's more a large than medium.

back in the day.. the big 3 dudes ... good friends .... were... mr walters .... herb benedict .. and larry englerth ... they were addicted to primroses.. i think .... this would have been the late 1940s .....

back in the day.. clarence falstad was in charge of the TC lab.. and was president of the MI hosta group [if not some level of the AHS] ... and was one of the peeps who sucked in a young man named ken.. into the hosta sickness ... today he might be charged as a pusher.. under current hosta laws ....

Jo! Yours is gorgeous! Did you get yours the size mine is and how long did yours take to look this big ? We did buy for all of our new plants good dirt, hope I gave them a good start. Over are the old days when I came home with plants, did a hole and stuck the plant in :-)

If you double check your invoice, Claudia, you will see it wasn't that much ;) I'm sure it will grow great for you. The trouble with it wasn't in its own growth but with the rate of poorly colored plants coming out of the lab.

Here it is when new in 2015 (from Hosta Choice) - exceptionally full plant with 10 shoots. (The kitty is sleeping on my lap, otherwise I would check my pip-counting list re annual increase/growth for you.;-)

I should mention that it is sited in a location that provides shade until around 11:30 and thereafter it is in full sun. It won't burn ... unless I neglect to provide water during a drought. You will be very pleased next spring when yours emerges with more eyes, I am sure!. :-)

Well now, look what you all did! I added it to my wish list! I'm up to 21 items on that list and basically no room for them.

It's too bad there's such limited availability for this hosta. Solidly in my top 10!

Steve ...how gorgeous! I am so glad I was able to add this Hosta to my garden. Fingers crossed this winter will be better than last and nothing happens. I always worry in the first year and than i can relax

Just make sure you put it in bright shade conditions, Claudia. I have 3 in a very shady spot, that are not growing much at all. I have 3 in bright shade (north exposure, to the open sky) that are growing like crazy.

rhere Is a chance we have it on the outer edges of a tree canopy. If I do have to move it would you say now or next year? We planted it I believe last week Wednesday. forecast for this week said we are going to get some rain...

I'd do it now, while there is good rain coming. I usually try to plant right before a rain event. However, if it's on the outer edges of the canopy, and it's getting decent light exposure, it may not really need to be moved?
