luxury vinyl or laminate flooring?

Getting a condo ready to sell. the flooring guys at the Home Depot and another recommended vinyl over laminate. they lboth look great. the vinyl is more water resistant. What do you guys think? Hardwood is out of the question and not right for the market. We are already taking a bath on this. we just want it to move.

I don't think the Sutton above looks like wood. Don't like the darkness between the planks. Looks dirty. Since they can replicate just about any wood look, I wish the would do a rendition of wide plank French white oak with a whitewashed waxed finish look. Also love that light, honey brown rustic look with the knots and grain. The wood looks they have now are...yawn! Might as well print it to look like the $$$ high end wood that most of us can't afford. Shouldn't cost any more to print that instead!

Without question luxury vinyl. Laminates have been on their way out for many years. There are too many problems with the way laminates wear, that's why vinyl came in new and improved and took over that price point of the market.

Modin Collection LVP has industry best 40 mil wear layer and costs about $3.50/SF. Most LVP at big box stores has 6 or 12 mil wear layer. Wouldn’t accept less than 20 mil.

Modin Rigid Collection has cork backing, rigid center, and wear layer. Handles like 1/4” plywood.

Both products have large planks. In time, IMO rigid LVP will supplant laminate. Both are DIY friendly. If you are paying an installer, IMO the Modin Rigid is easier and faster to install and will get a better job.

The main problem with laminate is water damage. The new Pergo line called Timbercraft is claimed to be waterproof. Maybe I didn't see the highend vinyl, but to me it doesn't look as good as better laminate. I think laminate makers are responding to the inherent problems in laminate. You can call it LVP and add luxury before vinyl, but it still vinyl.

You won’t find high end LVP at a big box store. The only thing laminate has going its way is it is cheap.

I wouldn't go to Home Depot for flooring, but LVP over laminate. Even "waterproof" laminates have water issues in my experience.

If you are using LVP, it’s a must to use high quality if you want it to look like real wood.

Laminate always sounds like laminate.

We have used luxury vinyl tile in both residential and commercial projects. Floor & Decor has a product with the cork padding attached and very easy to install.

Why can't they do vinyl that looks like these? Same printing process!
