SLD, yes there are at least two kinds of Maruba Nishiki, the striped version contains areas that are non-bleachable (from the sun) whereas the other kind the entire leaf is sunbleachable. Your (non-bleachable) Maruba Nishiki has a great amount of the stripes, mines more subtle. I'll try to get pics later.

LOL Crenda and Rina... absolutely agree!! Just a few jades can turn into a epidemic ;-)

stupidlazydog, apparently there are two types of Maruba - the one with green leaves and the newer leaves a bright yellow, with the occasional yellow dot on other leaves - this can turn all green in cooler, darker days, and the type like your striped one, which is variegated, and stays that way. I have not enough experience with the two types to confirm this, but on a Facebook jade forum, Planet Jade Tree, this was said, and furthermore, it was explained that the green and yellow one is simply called Maruba, and the variegated type is Maruba Nishiki. I have a difficulty with this, in that I had the type with green leaves and bright yellow ones, and now this is producing variegated leaves also - I really wonder if there is not just one Maruba Nishiki after all. I love this jade no matter what its leaves are like - it never seems to get blotches and the leaves are lovely and silky, with what looks like a decorative stitching all around. There is also a soft, misty look to some of the green leaves which doesn't occur on any other jade that I have seen so far. Every leaf used for propagation produces a perfect little Maruba, they always seem to come true.

My strange Gollum. Severely pruned in spring. Direct sun all summer. The leaves don't look typical, but I at least like how compact they are.

Nanzjade, I'd love to see pics of yours, My cutting was all green when I got it, and then bleached out and developed the striping.

Rina, I think you're right about the skinny fingers. I just looked at the old photos of the plant, and to my surprise, they don't look typical either. I had forgotten, and even though I had seen that drawing, the skinny fingers passed right by me. Thanks.

Only problem is, now I want a regular one too.

I have leaf cuttings of this that do look typical to me, at least for now. 1 1/2" pot.

Same plant as above, picture from last summer. It shows the stripes better. Mine too was all green when I got it from a kind friend, and when I saw the variegation I was stunned!

I was sent a cutting of Maruba Nishiki this season, and it will be fun to see how the striped variegation appears.

Crassula no ID, I have 3 of these that came together but this was the only one it made sense to take a picture of. I only purchased these within the past month so they’re still adapting and settling into their new pots and mix.

Hobbit, this guy took a really really long time to settle after I repoted it. Not much growth for the first 6-8 months I had it, I pruned it fairly hard by my standards last week.

Mike, my dear kind friend, all your jades are brilliant! I’m amazed at how much the Return of Beauty cuttings grew since Christmas. :) Wow that blushing from the sun is pure awesomeness! I usually get color like that in the wintertime.
I’ve been seeing a little more color on the jades, so glad the sun has been shining lately.

Beautiful jade everyone. I did not acquire any new jade this year but I have 1 or 2 on my wish list now from all the pictures. I probably posted my jade trees to this thread before? But here are my jade trees that grouped together - waited to be moved inside - most like this weekend when temperature drops - or could they stay outside longer?

Mike, great color on your mother red horn tree. I am curious why I can not get that kind of color? Especially the yellow. My hummels sunset is the same, green with a little bit red tint on the edge. Here is the red horn tree you shared last year. Thanks again, bud. The yellow just not showing, must be my growing condition?

Felix, hello buddy! Your jades are so healthy looking and great job. Wow, you are very good at rooting just about anything.

To get the right color, you really need to rest them up against a warm wall or something and lots of sun.

Cool nights and warm sun by day. Mines sit on my flat roof and dry by the evening which allows me to leave them outside when colder too,

Last year, they were able to stay out longer well into November and I am afraid I have to cut their days short outside this time(((( Ugh. How have you been? e-mail please.

Thanks for the explanation..By the way, I do have one in which the leaves almost turn white and tan, different coloring patterns and another in which you describe, very very yellow with red margins and coloration. I will take a closer look. I'm pretty sure that I have two different types acquired from Asia for a good friend that once frequented here and live close to me whom has now moved quite a distance.

Rina, FEED FEED FEED heavily. They are pigs for fertilizer and lot's of sunlight. It will grow big quicker than you know. They grow too fast for me when fertilizing like that, like weeds. Looking good though even if small.

Jeff, it is. I think so. Josh has the proper name for it. I think there are only a couple in the in this country that have it because they are hard to grow and in which I only gave a couple of cuttings too a while back. My friend that provided it to me in the first place, I am not even sure if he still has his of lost it do to a freeze? I an't remember.

Unfortunately I had to stick on mine in my kitchen because I think it is time to bring them in I was hoping for them to flower before got too cold but the cold is more than one month early so depressing ! I was hoping to post you some buds but the cold weather has moved in much too early for me to let them stay outside to do so. Ugh

Mike, gorgeous array of colors and plants, where are you going to put them?!?! lol!! Time for your grow lights? I hope they’ll set buds for you still. I had several jades out the last few days, covered at night and I see some freeze damage, I’ll bring them in this evening. I’ll clean them up as they show any dead tissue. I used spares mostly, was a test in a way.

Mike, great color on your red horn tree. And where are you gonna put all these pots? LOL. The temperature dropped so fast now we are on 50s daytime and 30s nighttime. It's getting cold so quick this year.
