Not with yellow, aster-like flowers!!

Compare with Helianthus tuberosus

@sheryl77: It is how Comfrey flowers look like: https://www.bing.com/images/search?q=comfrey+flowers&FORM=HDRSC2

Were you hoping to grow Comfrey? Did you plant Comfrey seeds. Why did you think the Rubeckia plants might be Comfrey?

They're Jerusalem Artichokes, as Embo said.

They would smother any Comfrey no problem.

If they're Jerusalem artichokes, they are volunteers from a previous year. I did plant comfrey. Thanks.

Jerusalem artichokes are perennial herbaceous plants sheryl, what means they die down in the fall and come back in spring again over a period of many years (more than two). So you can expect them to grow there the next year again.

Sunchokes don't volunteer. They just plow through garden soil without anyones permission. You will probably notice this habit in year 3.

I have some of these. Planted where they could just be mowed over if spreading too much. No need, they are struggling because the deer are eating them. I doubt I will ever see a flower, but it might have saved some hostas from being eaten.
