True Residential 30'' Column Refrigerator

We are considering a True Residential 30 inch column refrigerator. I'm not finding many reviews about them. I would like to hear other people's experiences with them and if they've needed any service? We need to replace our old refrigerator that is on the verge of dying.

We recently purchased the True Residential ice machine in May 2018 which we love but we have had the service guy out twice to fix it. Each time True has been very responsive and replaced the parts immediately.
This experience is causing us second thoughts for spending $9000 for the True refrigerator.

IMO there are more suppliers than just that one which IMO has already beena hassle . I think there are many at a lot less that 9k

Thanks, Patricia. We want to purchase one made in the USA and I agree that there are others that meet that criteria.
I was hoping for feedback about True. It doesn't appear that there are too many customers using True Residential products based on the few amount of reviews on the web. As good as their commercial lines are I am hopeful that the Residential items are too...but I don't want to gamble on that assumption.

ekara: what repairs needed to be made with the ice machine? did you ever get the true column? considering the same and would like your feedback.

We bought our ice maker in May 2018. When we first got it we had two issues. One with a circuit board and one with a valve. Both times True covered all the parts and repairs. They were fantastic to deal with. VWe have not had any problems since that time. Our family absolutely LOVES it.

We decided to wait on getting the True fridge until we remodel our kitchen. We ended up going with an inexpensive fridge and plan to replace it in the next five years when we redo our kitchen.

I was not successful in locating any reviews on their residential refrigerators but I see their commercial brand in many businesses. I would be interested if you've come across any reviews on True residential fridges? I spoke with the repair guy who came to fix my ice maker and he hadn't serviced any but he didn't think that there were many in our area.

We are looking at the column fridge-freezer combo as well. Wondering where you landed with your remodel if you’ve done it yet.

Sadly I haven’t been able to start it. Please keep me updated if you decide to go with True and how you like it.

Sorry but I would never spend 9K on a fridge . I have Fridgedaire all fridge all freezer columns with built in kit mine are 16 yrs old not one service call and still going strong 3k for the pair so I am more than 6K ahead since I have both .I have to admit I had never heard of this company before today and I see they have been around for a long time . So one of those learn something new every day. I would be leery if the ice maker has been an issue 2 x in 5 yrs I bet it was not cheap either .

Save your money! We purchased the True 30/36 refrigerator 2 months ago. 4 weeks after installation, we walked into our kitchen to a puddle of water coming underneath the crisper bins in the refrigerator and leaking down the front of the freezer drawer onto the floor.

We immediately called the appliance store where we purchased it as well as True warranty customer service. It took 1 1/2 weeks for them to get a technician here even though we explained how the water was leaking nonstop all over the floor. Once the technician got here, it was no easy task for him to take out all the shelves and remove the crisper drawers with a power tool, you can not just slide them out. He was told by True support that it was a recall item on the heater unit and they would send him one. 5 days later he called us that he received the part and he came out to replace it.

Now 4 weeks later, guess what, we walked into our kitchen again with water all over the floor coming from underneath the crisper units again. We call True warranty again, and are now waiting to hear something back while we watch water leaking all over and changing towels every

30 minutes. The refrigerator is only 8 weeks old. We spent a fortune on it because we liked that is was made in the USA and seemed very well built. They are not. We now wish we had gone with subzero or miele.

Your review doesn't jive - turn off the water to the ice maker, there's no other water source in one of their bottom freezer units.

Your review doesn't jive with reality - if it's leaking water, turn off the water to the ice maker, there is no other water source. The water line for the ice maker also doesn't run into the refrigerator box...are you just trolling True Residential for some reason?

FYI, the drain line defroster was faulty, and has been recalled on the unit. The entire defrost unit had to be replaced after 4 weeks. Not trolling, do your homework.

Ari/Dianne: Do you find that you have to wait at least 30 seconds to reopen your refrigerator once your close it. It drives my husband crazy. I know that is how the freezer works but I am questioning if this is how the refrigerator works as well. I spoke to a restaurant server who happened to have the commercial True fridge and freezer in their restaurant. They said it only happens with their freezer. Also when I spoke with customer service they initially thought I was talking about the freezer as well. Thank you in advance.

Only the freezer does it. Fridge should not.

Thank you, Ari. Our fridge does it as well. Will call them tomorrow.

Ari/Dianne: One more question please. I had two different techs come out because we have droplets of water above our top crisper drawer. See photo. The techs said this was normal. My husband argued with the last tech but was told that’s how it works. Dianne seemed to have the same problem. Do you experience this? Doubt this is ”normal”.

What temp are you set to and what temp does it show for actual temp?

Hi Ari, they set it at 37 deg. and it reads 37.

OK. water drops are normal, especially if it is warmer in the room (summer) and if your fridge is cold (37-40 is normal, you are on the colder end). you seem to have more droplets than I'd expect, but don't know how empty/full your fridge is (all can have an effect)

Josie, our refrigerator opens immediately all the time, we have never had to wait for it to open. The freezer does have a bit of a delay if you close it and immediately try to open it. As far as water droplets, you need to call True and have a tech come out that is not normal, keep calling expecially if it is under warranty. We have our refrigerator set at 38, and the freezer is at -3, try that and see, if it doesn't stop, call True.

Thank you, Arl. We have the room set to 77 deg but we do live in Florida. Also, we do keep the fridge full. Your response was truly appreciated. Thank you, again. Have a wonderful day.

Dianne, I just saw your response. Thank you so much. We will change the settings a bit and see what happens. Right now the droplets are frozen. I also seem to be the only one who has to wait about 30 sec before re-opening the fridge. It can be quite annoying at times. I will give the service dept a call. They have been very responsive every time I reach out to them. Thankfully we have one year left on the warranty. Thank you again and have a wonderful rest of the day.

Maybe a bad seal, causing vacuum and warm/humid air getting in fridge and condensing and freezing. Def call service

Arl, this makes sense. Will call them tomorrow morning. Very much appreciated.

Josie123, did you get a diagnosis and resolution?

Hi Arl: I did speak to tech support about the 30-second delay with re-opening the fridge as well as the condensation above the top drawer which sometimes forms ice.

He had me perform some tests and they were all good; the seals were checked previously and they were also found to be good.

The tech then explained that not all True models are built the same. Even though someone’s refrigerator doesn’t have a delay doesn’t mean that mine will behave the same way; also that a having the delay doesn’t mean it’s broken. He also explained to me about the condensation and a bit of ice forming. He said that where one lives plays a factor, as well as the location of the fridge, as to the condensation/ice. I do live in Florida and we do have big sliding doors, as well as a picture window above the sink, in the kitchen. Even though we keep the home cool a lot of light comes in. The other thing he mentioned that was impressive was that he said the True refrigerator is the only fridge with true stainless steel all around the walls, therefore the walls hold the cold better, thus it can create a bit more of condensation/ice than other fridges. Other fridge companies have plastic or cheaper alloys in their linings. Maybe that’s why the top-line Subzero was so much cheaper than the True.

So the bottom line is I guess its working the way it should (even though my husband doesn’t agree). Other than that, and the noise which I somehow got used to, it is one gorgeous refrigerator and I am very happy with it.

Thank you, Arl. I hope this made sense.
