I should add:

this is our everyday eating area, table is usually 52" round without the extra leaf, not open to a rug at this point (young kids, dogs - trying to reduce extra stuff and extra work!)

would love to add a bit of sparkle - open to a mirror on the wall (had a large plain glass mirror there and it was really lacking in colour and texture)

would be very open to more modern chairs and a really cool light fixture that is a departure from our more transitional/urban country feel...

always a challenge for me to balance cozy with simple and cool

Others may disagree but I'm not loving the white chairs for your table. Plus, nothing about grommet drapes says "cottage".

sorry I wasn't clear - these white chairs aren't staying here (taking them to the cottage) - want yo replace with a something more modern, loungy, cool :)

I don't have much to offer as I think it's lovely...and there are so many chair choices out there for you to look at! I really like leelee's choices and I totally agree about the grommet drapes...But that's a personal peeve of mine.

What about print drapes?

this room just never came together which is why it bugs me - the function is amazing - just lacks something....

I think the right chairs and lighting will make it all come together.

funny enough I love my drapes and chose the grommets as they made them feel a bit more casual as the material is very modern/dressy

really like the upholstered chairs - has white parson ones before (they were very tall mind you...) and too many wide chair backs with the blue recliners.... but ones with a lower back would work :)
