Hello Gina, thanks for the very flattering comments. It made my day!!! It was very simple when approaching this space ... I did not want it to feel like a second rate space in the house, like most basements do. I did not want it to feel like a basement at all actually. This small basement space has only 2 tiny windows in the whole place. The wall texture does a big a big job of creating visual and textural interest, as do the built-ins at the end of the room. The ceiling is painted the same colour as the walls, so there is no sense of a wall stopping and a ceiling starting ... it all just flows around you so that helps overcome a low ceiling height. The furniture placement and circulation is planned with the bulkhead in mind - a whopping bit element running through the middle of the room that is barely noticed, becuase everything else is carefully scaled and integrated. The room makes no apologies for its shortcomings as a basement space, but rather embraces all those "problems" and integrates them into the overall design. There is nothing fancy about the lighting ... just warm LED potlights about 5' apart (not trying to accentuate the ceiling in any way), the backlit mirror, and them some lamps, which aren't even turned on in the photo you're seeing. In this room's case, it was more about choosing a fresh and airy look and feel, and then building that out in the architectural treatments, as well as the furnishings. There was indeed a lot of thought, planning, and detail that went into this space. If you are feeling overwhelmed by your basement, I would strongly suggest you hire someone who could help you optimize your own basement conditions, so that you can get a look and feel that you love.
