It appeared to be buds. All you have to do now is wait for it to open.

do you have an update (pix) on that crested adenium of a couple of years ago?

The crested one carried on looking like it was going to be crested...and then I spotted some areas on the stems that looked a bit odd - sadly, I ended up having to give it quite the haircut...which included all the crested stems. It's still recovering from that...but if it grows that way again, I'll have my camera ready !

Photo above is the first one for me...after 6 years of waiting...feeling a bit nervous. Apparently it's supposed to be a pink flower with red/dark pink markings/lines...but I really don't care what colour it is...as long as it happens ! :)
