Kitchen backsplash and pendant light help

Hi everyone, new to Houzz. It's great to be able to ask advice to a community other than bugging my husband. So, we moved to a new townhouse and kitchen had to be renovated. We put in new cabinets, counter tops and appliances. Cabinet is antique white color with stainless steel hardware. Countertop is light gray color. Flooring is bamboo throughout the house, so we didn't change that. So far I like the kitchen. BUT.. the dilemma is backsplash... although a subway tile is probably the easiest and safest choice (for resale, etc), I want to try something different. Since the kitchen is mostly white, I am itching to add some color or pattern. For example - thinking of a moroccon arabesque ivory tile with a gray grout; or a blue glass tile. I need HELP!

Also I need to buy two pendant lights for the area where bar stools will go. Since all my hardware is stainless steel - I was going to break that by adding brass light fixtures - what do you think? I will also eventually add wood floating shelves on the side. Give me your ideas/suggestions pleaseee. Thank you in advance!

since you have little area behind the stove, I would take the splash all the way over, above the window to the ceiling and down to the countertop to the right. prob do two wood shelves over there too and one across on the other wall. I'd also trim out that window and add a sconce above it

I wouldn't do the white arabesque. it's meh. forget white subway tile. also meh.

light blue or green is a nice choice.

these are hand glazed terra cotta from CleTile. about 1.25 each. this is a robins egg color

    Flannel

they have hundreds of other selections.

I love their zellige scallop tile in these shades (you could do one color if you prefer. this beats the arabesque, hands down.

gray handmade look ceramic (you can find these anywhere) 2x10, 3x9, 2x8, are better sizes than the 3x6

tilebar has the Nabi arctic Blue crackle glaze subway tile

@Beth - I love the scallop design, will definitely look into it in a light blue color. Also am trying to break the small wall at the end of the countertop, so hopefully that will open up the kitchen more.

I assume since you are remodeling and also taking time to decide on finishes that you're not selling anytime soon. If that's true I'd have a little more fun with the backsplash than the arabesque or a subway. Plus it's such a small area it'd be easy to replace so I don't think it'd deter buyers.

A light, cool color would look really good with a gray grout that matches a color from your countertop. You could do glass, gray, or same color as backsplash pendants. I wouldn't do brass.

Lighting in the photo makes everything look a little off, but quick mock-up for a visual...

Kala, I was trying to find those scallop designs on their, but all I see now are them in the cement. However, they do have these great colors in the 3" hex. In fact, these are on the sale page.

it's a teal gray- Tempered Steel color

    https://www.cletile.com/collections/second-shelf/products/teal-gray-3-5-hex-1?variant=

this Silver is also on the sale page

    some others

    pending storm

    shattered peal

tea ceremony. (these come in subways and 2 or 4" squares. I thought they came in the scallop design too. But the hex are equally nice. these would look very nice in your kitchen. they have a nice glaze finish w/varying tones.)

    for scallop,

    https://www.mineraltiles.com/search?search_query=scallop

I was trying to find these, but I'm afraid they might be very expensive. Similar ones I found at Mercury Mosaics were in the $86 sf range!

and the comment above, w/the Fireclay tile mosaics, are also above the $45 sf range. if you have a healthy budget, I can find you some beautiful tiles!

@crystalpea - Love the mock up visual, how did you do that?! Yes, not selling at least for next 3 years :) and that's a long enough
time and i need to enjoy that kitchen, so yeah, going to choose a fun
backsplash. Going to check a few stores/websites. Will update you all soon.
