While Everyone Slept In...

I stitched up two car seat blankets for my great-niece, who will arrive some time in October. Momma lives out of town, and will be visiting our hometown next weekend for a baby shower. My niece has a unique sense of style. While these are not color-coordinated in any way, she will like the bright, almost un-baby-like fabrics. (Honestly, I think she'd prefer skulls & flowers, but I just couldn't do it!)

Fingers-crossed I can get this quilt off the flannel board and pieced together before the end of the day! What's on your sewing agenda today?

Dumb question but did you piece the tops for the car blankets or were they printed fabric? Whatever you did, they are great. And I like the one you are working on.

Not a dumb question at all! Each print is a yard of cotton fabric, and the solid is flannel (pink) and fleece (white) for the other. The cut was way off, so after I evened them all out, the blankets are about 33" x 40" - kinda smallish for a receiving blanket, but right-sized for tossing onto & tucking around those carry-all car seats for chilly (or cold winter) mornings. :)

Oh, and I stitched RST at 1/4", turned, pressed, and topstitched 1/4" for the flannel. To flatten the bulky fleece, I topstitched 1/8" and again at 1"

Larri, your blankets are adorable, especially the feathered one. And your quilt is going to be terrific. I love the way the HST seem to explode from the center pinwheel.

I like your blankets! Very nice.

Check your layout before you sew those HSTs together - to my eye it looks like some may be turned the wrong way. :)

I had a 'shoot-a-bunny' moment, Donna, when I read your comment, because I'd already begun piecing the top together. THANK YOU for suggesting a second-glance. I was able to correct a couple of spots. After closer inspection, one 16-patch is already pieced. I'm taking the 'galloping horses can't see it' approach on that side. Happy Sewing & Quilting, y'all!

The car seat blankets are very nice...great idea. I especially love the HST top, but yeah I see what Donna is saying...which I didn't pick up immediately....so the Galloping horses approach works! Never heard that expression...it's a keeper!

BTW: love your artistic envelopes, always so fun to receive your mail!

Thanks, Valarie! I make so many mistakes quilting, I had to adopt that expression from a quilt instructor. May have originated with Fons & Porter, I just can't remember.

The feather fabric came from Hobby Lobby. It's actually classified as 'apparel fabric' but it was 100% cotton, so I took a chance. It washed up beautifully soft!
