I think if we knew why cats do what they do, we'd have unlocked the secret of the universe. Then again, if we knew, it would certainly take a lot of the mystery (and fun) out of living with them! I've got four, ranging in age from 15 years to 9 months, and they are, each one of them, an absolute adventure.

Around our house, we frequently use the phrase, "This is why we can't have nice things" in regard to the cats, placing the blame squarely where it belongs. That said, I adore the little furry buggers, and cannot imagine my life without them.

They're showing ownership, how much more important they are than our little decorations and helping us decorate. :) Cats match anything! I'd rather have this behavior than not have the cats. :)

Whenever I'm packing to go away, and lay out nicely folded thing, the cats sit on them. If I partially pack, I can't leave the top open or unzipped because they will get inside.

So all of you know exactly what Im talking about. I have always had a dog and this is my first cat so even after 10 years of living with her there is always something new. Unfortunately she is getting older and very lazy--can't even get her to play like she used to. I can't complain though because she is the cat of all lap sitting. I meant to post this at KT and decorating conversations.

About 40 years ago, I found some wallpaper with brass beds on it. And on each bed, something had been laid down. And on each laid down object, was a cat - lots of different cats on the various beds. As we had 5 cats at the time, I had to use this wallpaper! Used it on the bed wall in 8 yr old son’s bedroom. Loved that paper! It was clearly designed by someone who was owned by cats.

When they lay on something you have just put down, it's because you are looking at that item, and they want to be in your eyesight. They want you to look at them instead. This behavior is very obvious when you are reading a newspaper, or staring at your computer.

I've always had cats, so there's very little that surprises me anymore, but it never fails to make me laugh how similar they all are. You know there were people trying to make the pyramids that turned around and there was a cat sitting on the block like yeah this is mine now. Stonehenge is what it is probably b/c whoever made it had to do it around the cats that wouldn't budge.

When I'm writing on my laptop Jason often reaches out a front leg and pulls my hand toward him. It's really touching and of course I have to stop and pay attention to him. He was abused in a previous home that was in the midst of a nasty divorce, and we're happy to give him all the love and attention he obviously needs.

The answer is that cats are cats, and humans are their slaves. I recently saw a "photo" of 4 cardboard boxes in the middle of the forest, with a cat in each. Laughed for 5 minutes.

Because they can. Of all the places she could go, she chooses the sink at the wet bar. Only when we have company. It’s like she’s daring anyone to take that second glass of wine.
