Not completely uncommon. Just a reaction to sun or water stress. Mine (new this season, still quite small and still in the original nursey container) is showing some slight signs of the same.

I re-potted the maple in a larger pot. I put it in something close to the 5 1 1 mix because the agway pine bark I ordered was very grinded and not larger bark like it normally is. Because of this I used half of the amount of Peat moss I normally used. The tree was doing good for 2 weeks but now a lot of the leaves have recently turned yellow and red. I checked the soil a few days ago and it was a bit dry but still a little moist. I gave it a good watering. Will I lose the tree? You think it needed water? Thoughts? The tree gets morning sun only. Thanks

Not an ideal time of year for repotting :-) I'd suspect it is just experiencing some transplant shock........in all honesty, it doesn't look all that bad. Just keep it well hydrated and out of direct sun and it should be fine, although may not develop as much fall color as it is known for.
