look close.. its the oldest leaves .... and they are being sacrificed due to transplant shock ... if not lack of water.. though you seem to imply that you are trying to drown it ... definitely lack of water on 2 year old plants ... or trees roots stealing the water ....

Wow, I've grown hostas since 1995 and never saw this before. We put sprinklers in the beds last year and thought that was the difference. The worst 2 hostas, the leaves just pulled away from crown. Yes, we battle tree roots, but other hostas in the bed had greatly improved since the sprinklers.

At least it may not be some dread disease.

I almost always repot any hosta I buy, but last year I let some slide. When I planted the first hosta (Forbidden Fruit), the soil did fall apart. I noticed it had only abt 3" of potting soil and bottom of pot filled with pine bark chips. What the heck? When did this start? No wonder roots were shocked.
