We are redoing our entertainment center built-in and want to incorporate two hideaway desks for our children. My thought was to have faux cabinet doors that would slide upward over open shelving. In theory, I thought this would be slicker and more functional than fold up doors or pull and retract options. Here’s a mock up idea I’m thinking.

Has as anyone done this and have recommendations on hardware or execution? My concerns would be how much weight the sliding hardware could hold (planning a double faux door)? Should I plan for a secondary locking system as a back up to hold the sliding doors up when the desks are in use (since someone would be sitting there)?
Any ideas or tips would be greatly appreciated.
