The sofa, coffee table, rug, what I can see of the painting and the dog all go really well together so you have made very good choices.

You are right about the pillows and the throw. While they are attractive and add a pop of color, they do not seem to be the right color. Try pulling out the rust colour or one of the other shades from the carpet. Another alternative may be one of the colours that are in the painting that are not visible in the photos as the painting is cut off.

I think add a few orange olives loose a few yellows

That yellow is fighting with everything else in the room.

Not sure the rug is doing you any favors.

Beverly, do you suggest changing the rug?

Maybe the throw pillows should be orange.

Is that an elephant on the wall? Pretty cool. For me, the style of the pillows do not complement the style of the artwork and actually draws your eye away from it. Maybe try a more subtle patterned pillow.

just vary the pillows a bit more- the rust + yellow in a graphic pattern. Do you sew (or know anyone who does?) Pillows are the most easy thing to make, 3 + seams (around the remaining corners) & velcro.

I would take out the bright yellow pillows, they are a bit clashy. The throw seems to be a more subdued color, so that's probably fine. Though, unless you are married to the pillow situation you could choose more neutral pillows, that are in harmony with the rug and art.

Even though I mentioned subtle, this gives you a pattern on a white background if that's what you were going for...

I like Manon's idea

I like your sectional and table but I also do not think that the rug is adding anything. The floor, rug, sectional and walls are all sort of beigey/gray/greige- not enough contrast. A darker rug might look better. Also a rug without a pattern of squares as you have a lot of square shapes in the area.

Personally, I think you answered your own question. It's the coffee table. It's rustic where as everything else is crisp and modern. If you are able to return the table, I would exchange it for a newer more modern table.
Adding some terracotta to the mix of pillows would help too.

We think the room just needs a few things tweaked. Try switching out the art and the pillows/throw. Then things might work a little more in your favor.
