Replacement windows question

last modified: 8 years ago

Hello everyone

question regarding install. We are getting all new replacement windows. Our home was built in 1981 and has cedar shakes with 2” brickmould ( window trim ). The inside has standard colonial moulding with stools.

my question is this. Since we are only getting replacement, how easy is it for our contractor to remove the exterior window trim and replace with Azek?

the window company said we would really need to do new construction/ full tear out if we wanted to do that. He said the exterior moulding is tied into the original window frame and removing the brickmould will disrupt the original frame and the interior colonial mouling is tied into the original frame as well. Is this true?

he also mentioned something about the original window not having an actual nail flange but the brickmould actually serves as a flange? Am i misunderstanding him? Can someone explain this?

thank you
