I loaded a large quilt top made by my Mom today. I felt kind of lazy so didn’t get much quilted. It’s a log cabin. The blocks are 14”, I think, and it’s 6 blocks by 8 blocks, so around 84 X 112.

I sandwiched a baby quilt today and hope to get to work on Bonnie Hunter’s Strip Twist tonight. I’ve had a really lazy day. I watched most of today’s round of the PGA Champion golf tourney. Now the first Vikings pre-season game is on. We just went down to our dock to watch the sunset. The sun was a bright orange ball because of the smoke from the fires in California. It was reflecting in the lake which was as smooth as glass. Quite beautiful but sad. I feel so sorry for the folks who are losing their homes.

I had a lazy day today, too. Released a swallowtail, about 25 more to go. I made three Lotto blocks today. I started working on a UFO. It was the striped quilt I had started for my friend last fall who had cancer, but then I decided it was too masculine, so made her a different one. I have a male friend who is fighting cancer now, and I thought I would finish it for him. He is pretty tall, so I need to get fabric to add a border and for backing.

I sandwiched a quilt yesterday and started quilting it today. It's not going to be one of my best. Unfortunately, I didn't get it really tight when I sandwiched it. Then I forgot to loosen the tension and the presser foot when I started quilting it. So it really didn't feed evenly.

I'm not going to rip it out and start over, so instead of a gift, it will be a gift of a different sort - Project Linus. The lesson is learned, however. Don't sandwich a quilt that is bigger than the tables (or find a new method), loosen the tension and loosen the presser foot when I start to quilt something.

But, it might turn out better than it appears at this moment - you never know. If I keep working on it, it might turn out better than it appears at this moment.

You all are making me feel guilty!

I need to finish up a baby quilt for our great nephew, born ten days ago. Our nephew decided that, at 50, he was ready to start a family! I made a blue and white quilt, using arctic white strips cut for a queen-size quilt, but which didn’t work with the batiks I cut.

We drove up to our family lake house in New England this week, so I need to pull all my sewing stuff out.

I finished the baby quilt for my niece late Friday evening, just in time for her shower on Saturday morning. It had a lot of errors. I've learned my design wall shouldn't be more than 2 steps from my sewing table, as a simple walk across the room caused me to turn the blocks as I was piecing them. I didn't rip them out, and gave it to her anyway. No one seemed to notice, and my niece loved it.

This morning I did a quick stitch of a project, making a lined zip bag. It's a sercy for a teen girl at church who turned 16 last week. My daughter says it looks like a Lily bag, so I think the recipient will enjoy using it. The first picture is a truer representation of the colors. Happy Sewing and Sunday, y'all!

Between dealing with a toothache and technical problems on both satellite TV and Dell laptop, I'm in a vile mood so won't be sewing today. I have a root canal appt. tomorrow - (OH YAY!!) Hoping for better days ahead. :{

I hope you feel better soon Rita! My DD had a root canal done recently. Good luck tomorrow. It's not as bad as it sounds. I have had one too.

Larri, your little quilt is precious. No wonder your niece loved it. Your zip bag is sweet too. And you got to use another label.

Rita - Checking in to see how you are today. Hoping your mouth feels better, and your computer is up and running!

This is OT, but went yesterday to get the root canal but after looking at the very high-quality but very expensive images, he said he needed to talk to my dentist because in his opinion the tooth was "borderline salvageable". Sure enough, got the word today it's not possible to restore it and will be getting it extracted early tomorrow morning. The insurance won't pay for those images and also won't pay for routine x-rays more often than every 3 years. If I had gotten an x-ray even a year ago they might have been able to catch it and save it. But at least I won't be having a toothache anymore, this has been going on for almost a month with the pain.

Thanks for the update, Rita! Hope the extraction is simple and having that tooth gone will make you feel much better quickly.

I had to look up "sercy". I thought maybe you had miss-spelled a word. What a nice idea.

I love sercys! For those who haven't heard that term before, 'Sercy' (also spelled 'Circi' or 'Sirsee') is a strictly Southern term for gift. It's usually something small and inexpensive, and a way to tell the recipient that you love them and/or are thinking of them. Sometimes a Sercy is given to say, 'Thank you!' for a kindness, such as helping someone move, doing yard work, picking up the mail while out of town, etc.

Larri, your quilt is lovely! I really like the colors. And the zipper bag is very pretty! I'd never heard "sercy" either - must be from the "South" that doesn't include Florida. :)

Rita, I'm sorry you had to pay for extra dental stuff, but I'm sure glad you won't have the toothache any more!
