Poke around in the soil and inspect soil moisture situation visually.

Also check the underside of the leaves for parasites.

Is your papaya in one of those black, plastic pots or in the ground? Not too clear from the picture. Black, plastic pots get very HOT in the sun..., even in the NORTH!

It's in the ground. The soil seemed a little dry. So I watered it some more. I also checked the underside of the leaves. Nothing didn't see parasites, pests or anything.

There are pots around it. But the papaya is not in them.

i dont think the grass is helping.

i would add some compost, then either cardboard, or woody mulch on top.

it keeps the weeds/grass down, AND keeps the moisture in.

papaya love rich organics, if you have sandy or poor soil, and just use chemical NPK, its not enough... they need organics like chick-poo, compost, or, at least fish emulsion.
