Her husband did it

Did anyone else have the same reaction I did when you first saw the story of Shannon Watts and her two daughters missing in Colorado? They were interviewing her husband, and all I could think was, OMG, he did it! He seemed detached, I guess that's the word I would use.

And I hate it when people make assumptions like that because you don't know what the person's normal behavior is or how they react to an event most of us will never encounter. But they argued, then she and the girls went missing with none of their stuff. It didn't take long for his story to unravel.

This happened not too far away from my house. The local station I watch was the first to interview him. He stood in front of his house saying the right things but also shuffling around and not showing any emotion.

He originally said that he and his wife had a late night "emotional" conversation. How do you go from that to killing your daughters? It's horrifying.

I thought the same thing when I first saw the initial reports of them being missing. No way could an innocent father/husband be so un-emotional.

I can not imagine how a father could kill his own children. I'm guessing he killed the little girls while he was taking care of them while his wife worked. She may have walked in to find them dead. Horrific.

Yes, I could barely watch it. To think of the reality of it is soooo painful. Those darling children and wife. I will pray for her family.

Oh, maddie lee, I never thought about that, that the little girls were dead when the mom came home. I saw that she got home about 2am from a business trip, and he left for work at 5am, so I can imagine all kinds of new scenarios now that I just don't want to think about.

Apparently from what friends and neighbors are saying, they were headed for divorce. He was having an affair. I guess he thought he could just eliminate the current family and move on to the next one. Bet he didn't think that new family would be prison buddies... So sick and disgusting. I just don't know how he could have done it alone in such a short time period. She was pregnant, pretty heavy, and he is no that big. And how did he get them all into the place he worked? Without anyone seeing him? I feel like he had help. Who was his other woman I can't imagine how she would feel now knowing why he did it.

But how do we really know that the time line is correct, it's just what he said, is there any proof? Lots of loose ends and questions.

When we first heard this my wife turned to me and said: "You know the spouse/boyfriend are most frequently the killers of a pregnant woman."

I read that homicide is the second leading cause of death of pregnant women. :( If he was having an affair....I imagine the pregnancy was unplanned, and most likely unwelcomed by him. The whole thing breaks my heart...those sweet little girls. :(

I remember seeing an interview years ago with the great Ben Bradlee of the Washington Post. He said there are three truths in journalism: if a teenage girls is missing, she's shacked up; if a building burns down, it's arson; and if a woman turns up dead, the husband did it.

She is just one of many and we need to pay more attention to violence against women. Just under three women in the US are murdered every day by an intimate partner. It is a worldwide problem. The information below is from CNN, but you can find more details at the mentioned sources.

    "Worldwide:
Thirty-five percent of women worldwide have experienced either physical and/or sexual intimate partner violence or non-partner sexual violence
    , according to theUnited Nations.

According to a Global Study on Homicide, of all women globally who were the victims of homicide in 2012, an estimated half were killed by intimate partners or family members.

    United States:
Each year - Over 10 million women and men are victims of intimate partner violence, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention."

This is so sad. Apparently they had local ties. She was from the Carolinas and they were married here. She apparently visited during the summer.

Absolutely heart breaking. The terror those babies must have felt in the last moments of their lives!

I just cannot wrap my head around how anyone -- ANYONE could be SO evil!

I don't know why but this reminded me of the Scott Peterson case 14 or 15 years ago in California. He was such a liar just as this fellow was. Pure scum, the both of them.

Both cases are eerily alike. Monsters walk among us.

GRR, he is now saying that the wife killed the girls and he killed her in retaliation. Luckily, the police are not buying it. He was also having an affair. Apparently their "emotional" conversation was about getting separated, though they were supposed to host a gender reveal party that weekend. Just sad all around.

The similarity to Scot Peterson and Lacy shouldn't be a surprise. Each year there are over 800 similar cases. Over 55% of the women killed each year are killed as a result of domestic violence and 93% of THOSE cases were women killed by their romantic partner/husband - present or former. The 7% not killed by their spouse were killed by someone who was in the spouse's family or his friend.

Over 10,000 women were killed in the years between 2003 and 2014, so the number per year on average is 833.

"About a third of the time, the couple had argued right before the
homicide took place, and about 12 percent of the deaths were associated
with jealousy. The majority of the victims were under the age of 40, and
15 percent were pregnant. About 54 percent were gun deaths."

What should be surprising is that we don't hear about more of these...just one or two catches the attention of the national press, usually pretty young pregnant white women, or something involving children. I think many times it is a murder suicide, so no perpetrator is left to draw the press's attention.

Yeah, trying to say the wife killed the kids. Right. Does anyone besides me think that’s why he threw the kids in the oil tank, to try to cover up his DNA or any other signs he killed them? Stupid crazy man.

And now they finally have found the young Iowa girl’s body, Molly Tippett, who has been missing, and apparently the killer is an illegal.
