Aicha and Alika

last modified: 8 years ago

I ordered these roses from high country roses this spring, and would love to hear more about them please! Does anyone else grow these beauties? Anyone near me? Even if you are not near me, I would love to hear how they have behaved for you. Growth habit, ect. Pictures of course, any information is welcome! :)

I loved Alika. I grew it in Alaska and it was wonderful. I wanted Aicha too, but I never found it in stock. My Alika was tall and vase shaped. My only rose from seed I have grown is "Baby Alika". I shipped baby down from Alaska when I moved. She turned out to be a pink single, but I still treasure her, even though she took after her father apparently in color.

Do you happen to have a picture of it sheila? I'm really glad I was able to get Aicha!

Yay! I hope they do well for you! My Suzanne I got this spring has put on great growth. I can't wait to see blooms this Spring!

I just was over at RVR website, to see what they had instock, and they had Belle Herminie! It's not really cost effective to order one, but since it was one I've been wanting forever, I ordered it!

Thanks for the pictures, and I loved the poppy :)

I had Suzanne many years ago in another garden (and another life) and I still remember that it had an unusual, delicate, almost wild rose scent that I loved. I remember sniffing this rose over and over again.

Sheila, I remember reading somewhere that the Himalayan blue poppy was one of the most difficult flowers of all to grow, and I'm very impressed that you are growing it. Congratulations!

Thank you Ingid, you have me looking forward to its bloom all the more!

That poppy was in Alaska, Ingrid. I haven't been brave enough to try it here. I'm growing the Romneyi Coulteri white California poppy here.

I read the same thing more than once about the blue poppy, so you are to be congratulated, Sheila. I read the most fascinating book about searching out rarities in South Africa, and elsewhere. I want to read again about the blue poppy. It's very exciting that you grew it.. Diane

Sheila, I'm so impressed!! There was a time in my life that I thought I would surely die if I couldn't grow the Himalayan blue poppy, but I got over it. Then I became obsessed with the Romneyi Coulteri poppy. Can't grow that one here, either. The sheer size of those are unbelievable. The one and only time I saw them in person was in Monterey, CA. The planters at a shopping area were filled with them. Blooms were easily a foot across.
