Landscaping help

Our house is very plain and lacks curb appeal. What can we do to spruce it up? The front door needs to stand out, but not sure how to make that happen. We need landscaping for sure. Any ideas? Thanks!

maybe flatten some a bit or it will help if you will add a pathwalk from the main road down to your main door. I got an idea something similar like this:

you could paint the door a bright color to help it stand out

I agree with mluvs63, sometimes paint really creates a difference. Maybe consider painting the sidings to add some detail in your windows and door.

    What color would you recommend?

varying textures is always a way to add curb appeal.. maybe the bump to the right of the front door could be clad in stone /brick/ cedar shake ...something different than the same horizontal wood siding? the shutters are narrow for the size windows also.

I think the biggest impact will be made by some nice landscaping. As to the house itself can you lose the shutters and add a wider deocrative chocolate brown trim around the windows ? I would have two small columns added at the entrance ( also brown ) with trim across the entrance ( a mini-portico of sorts ) A mustard yellow door would create interest If possible paint all white/beige trim brown as well . If you ever decide to paint the body a new color I would suggest a nice sage green with a medium tan or taupe trim. . Make a wide walkway going to the most travelled destination ( I just imagined it going to the left but it could be to the right or center ) and add two curved beds on each side. Plant two small colorful blooming trees or trees with bright leaf color such as purple or red on each side. Fill beds with blooming shrubs, low growing evergreens, ornamental grasses, perennials and annuals as illustrated in my sketch below.

You have a blank canvas to work with. Consider yourself lucky. When the landscaping is complete, you'll have a great looking house. You might consider hiring a landscape architect to help you develop a master plan.

Shutters should be measured out to be at least half of the size of the actual window. With that being said, we agree with ourfarmhouse. Since your home has a bit of a rustic style we would recommend going with Board and Batten shutters. They would really enhance the curb appeal of your home and if you decide to add the stone like pictured above, they would look great.
