Why not a real vintage range, like a Chambers or O'Keefe & Merritt? You can find them already restored if you don't want to hassle with having it done. If I were going for gas I'd look for a Chambers, although they're pretty pricey since Rachel Ray started using one on her show.

Too MCM to my eyes. Plus since our kitchen cabinets are already in production, I need a standard 36" to fit...too late to redesign the cabinets around the stove.

My vote would be for a Bluestar RNB, not the platinum. A true workhorse!
Hundreds of colors to choose from, and knob color/finish choices as well.
I have a black one, and there is not that much stainless on it.

You might also look at Capitol, a bit different burners and design that may suit your needs better.

Both BlueStar models still have the large stainless plate behind the knobs when you go with a custom color...which I'm trying to avoid. Looks like you cannot customize the color on the Capitol brand.

At least some of the models can be colored but i think they have stainless behind the range knobs like bluestar. I would get the bluestar rnb or wait for lacanche. You can wait for a range if you have to...

Ilve and viking Tuscany are other similar look options.

So you would be without a range for four months. That is not the end of the world if it is the right choice for your kitchen.

Have you tried calling Bluestar to find out if they would custom paint the control panel for you? I assume that they still do all of the painting in-house/to-order.

If Bluestar won't, I'm sure you could take the control panel to a local powder coating shop. The panel is easily removed.

What about staying with the Aga Legacy that you wanted, but in a different color? There are quite a number of nice colors.

I wanted the black one and they only make the model I had decided on in stainless anymore. I’ve scoured the internet, but haven’t been able to locate one. I’m now looking at the La Cornue or Lacanche. I want the right stove for the space and I guess I’m willing to wait for the right one.

I very much agree with not compromising and waiting if necessary for the right range, especially for the nature of your project and the $$$ level.

That is disappointing that the black Legacy was discontinued. I have the Legacy 44 in black and I really love it. I did happen to see that Appliance Connection still shows a few 36s in Cranberry if you’re interested.
