What color would you paint this table and chairs?

We're moving to a farmhouse where the dining room has oak hardwood floors (there's an 8x10 beige tile inlaid in the center of the room), white wainscoting and I'll be painting the top part of the walls Sherwin-Williams Halcyon Green (a soft robin's egg blue / green). There are 2 white built-in curios in the corners (they could be repainted.) The chandelier is oil-rubbed bronze. I thought about painting the table & chairs white but I'm not sure how that would go with the beige floor tile and the dark chandelier. Maybe some parts white and some parts black? Or a completely different color, the Halcyon Green would be awesome but it may be too much with the walls that color too. What do you think? I'm wide open for suggestions!

I have the almost same table and chairs as yours and I was thinking the exact same thing :) Good to know that I'm not the only one with the same thought . I will take a look and get back to you shortly.

Okay I found an idea so far ,I really think that keeping the top natural looks best .

Right now, I LOVE robins egg blue with bright yellows. These chairs are so great with the detail on the canes. You don't want it to be too busy, but a slightly different shade of your blue with citrus yellow, and white/beige accent would be really pretty, and could tie your color palette together.

Great colour I would go with a buttery colour then , funny thing our kitchen ...I painted green .

Or, you could paint just the chairs (and the corner hutches) an almost black color.

I love the look of leaving the wood finish on top but afraid that wouldn't work for mine, the finish is wearing off on top.

Just give it a good sanding down and varnish it ,you are going to do all that work anyway ,just as well go a step further ,you could even stain it differently if you wish . Or if you like you could even stencilled

Ooh I'm liking that melted butter! I've never been fond of yellow, but that is more toned down, I like it! Also like those chairs in almost-black. Maybe paint the table top and chair seats in a dark color like that, and everything else the buttery yellow?

I wish that someone could give us a visual using the colours ,I don't know how to do it or would have ,I don't have Photo shop :( But I think that it could work with the Melted butter and black , just don't make it shiny .

You could paint the chairs and the bottom of the table a cream then put an antiquing glaze on top. For the top of the table sand it and stain it a little darker. Like a dark walnut or Jacobean. Then a satin poly over everything. You could do the built ins the same with cream paint and antiquing glaze.

This is similar to my floors, wainscoting, and chandelier; just the wall color is very different and I have that beige tile inset under the table. I think the cream will look great!

Your place sounds lovely, and with endless possibilities! Have you considered leaving the top of the table as is, and painting the rest of the table, and the chairs "high gloss black" (I believe they used to call it "stovetop paint"?)

My daughter is doing a project similar to this right now. Whatever colors you decide on, please use Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. Other than giving the chairs a quick wash with TSP to get rid of any greasy fingerprints or food residue you can't see, you don't have to do any other preparation. No sanding! She is painting Her dark oak chairs in an off white and they look gorgeous! Better than she had hope for! She is going to paint the legs of her table off white, sand the damaged top of her table and re-stain it and then varnish it. On her chairs, she is using the Annie Sloan glaze the antique the chairs and then reupholster the cushions. The Sloan products come in a large variety of colors and are super easy to use.

With that style chairs, I would go black (possibly distressed) on both chairs and table top. A different color for the base, whatever you like. You can distress that too.

Thanks for all the suggestions! Honestly I never would have considered yellow, but seeing the pics here convinced me. I got some creamy yellow chalk paint and got started on the chairs already. I LOVE how they look! I already have a "cabinet transformations" kit in espresso. That will be a durable finish and I'm thinking about using it for the tabletop.

That chair looks fabulous. I love the idea of painting the chairs and bottom of the table. I have a table and chairs that I just might do as well.

Is the table top wood or formica? I like the chair pic but consider adding a glaze over it that will add dimension. Congrats on your new home!

Thanks Pattie :) The table top is laminate; everything else is solid wood. So I plan to sand down the top and use the 3-part cabinet refinishing kit on it. What kind of glaze would you recommend for the chairs?
