Any idea where I could find a list of the David Leach hybrids for zone 4?

(I’m okay with waiting for whatever I plants I put in to grow.)

David Leach's research area was willed to the Holden Arboretum in OH upon his death. The Arboretum maintains the David Leach garden in Madison, OH. This would probably be the best place to find the information you want. The Great Lakes Chapter of the American Rhododendron Society is another possible source.

Several of the small leafed rhodies such as PJM and Olga Mezitt which were bred by Weston Nurseries in MA may be your best bet in your zone. In my garden they tend to show less winter damage than the larger leafed varieties. Or figure out where the December-March shadow from your solar panels will fall, and plant there to protect them from winter sun. In my garden and from what I have read, in general, Nova Zembla often is somewhat leggy and less densely leafed than many other rhodies.

The location will probably have winter shade (looking at it this time of year, the back of the plant will be shade, the front sun- as the sun gets lower it will probably be more and more shaded). PJM might work (the location is at the back, so I'd prefer something at least 5' tall, preferably 6' or more).

I've actually started to lean back toward doing the winterberry (but have not yet purchased or put anything in the ground).
