We are currently pondering what to do with our fireplace/tv section of our built in.

Not loving the old dated fireplace but feel that we have to follow the existing style but would

like to modernize it if possible.

One thought was to close off the t.v. cabinet as the proportions are all wrong. Thinking of

a textured modern non shiny rough tile with an shallow pocket for the t.v. and carrying that down to around the fireplace. Possibly replacing existing fireplace with a rectangular one with crystal/ rocks

and glass surround.

Then I was thinking of repainting the room and cabinet soft shades of grey to blend with the carpet.

Any ideas?
