Scab on Bartlett pears, south side of tree

I've been noticing a scab showing up on pears our tree is bearing on the south side. Probably some sort of insect damage, though the tree is in a position where we normally don't see it up close a lot. Therefore haven't noticed what the insect might be.

We do have wasps here, and I know that some of them like sugars. Everyone in our valley seems to have been noticing a lot of wasps and wasp nests this year.

Given this fairly minimal info, is my guess at all in the ball park for scab on fruit on the south side?

Any other explanations come to mind?
