I would eliminate the first one. Too much white, It will be hard to keep clean.

The others all have distinct looks so you have to decide:

Do you want a more monochromatic look? Then the last one.

Do you want to introduce more color? Then the third one

The second rug sort of falls in between. Not too much variation in color, but more vibrant in the pattern and color than the last one.

I like the one you posted on the link. It is also monochromatic but has a different feel than the last one, although similar.

You could use more colour in the the room , do you have any art on the walls ?

I don’t have art yet, I’m looking around at ideas at the moment. I want a cabinet/sofa table type thing on the back wall with either a metal art thing or a mirror and I need to add something to the shelving. I’m going back and forth on painting the cabinets, they are high quality wood when you see them in person so I feel guilty painting but I feel they darken the room. Next year we do wood look tile on the floors so eventually that will be gone.

If you are still deciding then why not make a board and to that begin with a fabric that you like from there you will pick the colour for the paint , you mention cabinets are those next to the fireplace the ones ? since you say they are wood then leave them alone and let them keep their natural beauty at least for now , once you will have all that decided then proceed with the decorating , the TV is too large for that space get a smaller one if you must have one there or get a TV stand for the large one . Later on if you decide on painting the 2 cabinets then make them blend with the wall colour this will send out an illusion of a larger wall.

I still didn’t get many thoughts on rug?

Can’t say I’m fond of any of them, will the new tiles next year be lighter or darker than your current floor? I too think you could use some color.

The floor color will be a medium wood. I haven’t really decided but not really dark and not light wood.

Maybe you. Decide on accent colors first before picking a rug or select your art and the take rug colors from the art. So far from your picks I only would consider #3.

Lol @molly I had the hegwood gray rug in our previous home! So obviously I like that one but I am thinking of a change.

I would like to get the rug because I feel like that needs to be done whereas the art I can piece together as I find things.

Also I don’t feel comfortable getting a rug that is too gray as the home has so much brown (much to my dismay..)

If you want to add more color, of the rugs you posted, number 3 looks like it has the most to offer. Here are some rugs that have color and some designs of ours that might just aid you with your dilemma. Take note of the rugs, artwork, and other decor items in the rooms.

A rug with warm and cool colors, terra cotta, blue, green, brown, gray. Pillows in those colors to bring this room alive. It seems to have no color at all right now. Hopefully you have beautiful art on the walls somewhere.

I like ingrid_vc sp CA zone 9 suggestions above. From the pics of rugs you sent, I would choose the one with gold and gray (as it appears on my screen). Number 3, I believe.

I haven’t got to the art for the room yet. This house has been my biggest challenge :( it’s not my style at all and I have had to start from scratch on decor. Came from a new build in the Midwest with craftsman’s touches to an Adobe in the Southwest with tile everywhere and dark cabinets....

Maybe one of these? I’m so distraught over this house. My style is not at all reflected anywhere :( I hate the tile everywhere but can’t do anything about it. I want the room to feel light and bright and even though there are big windows it just feels dark and old.

Do you open the shutters during the day? I thinks some brighter colors on a white or cream background would help, are you open to changing more than the rug?

I like the more muted patterned rugs. I feel like any larger pattern like the rug in your first pic, almost competes with your fireplace brick and it's too many lines going on there. Also, I would get a smaller tv to fit into your built-ins, that one is much too large and dominates the whole area. That room would look great with a beautiful piece of artwork over the fp instead. Put the mammoth tv in the man cave ;)

Oh wow Molly! Thank you! Yes I like the creams I think they would brighten the space for sure. I have a pieces of artwork and wall things in order, a window pane mirror and table for the back wall and I want a fig tree in the back corner. The tv is big and we could switch it out, initially we had no tv but the previous homeowners have all the tv wiring and surround sound going specifically to this room so it makes the most sense from a movie watching perspective.

Sounds like things are coming together. What accent color did you choose?
