I think your starting point should be another sofa, in cream -- a kind of back-to-back ebony & ivory. I'd also think of the function of the two spaces -- if that on the right is the conversation area, the space on the left would be ... reading? In that case, a small bookcase next to the second sofa that also acts as a sidetable? Give thought to how you want to use it.

What is your view from the window behind the two chairs? If it's a green and lush backyard, I might use a comfy reading chair and ottoman facing the view. But, that's just my lifestyle. How do you wish to use this space? Sometimes we are too quick to fill space.

there is a screened in porch & water view. the space has never been used...its kind of "that" room that you don't really need or use but that came with the house. I don't really intend on using that space But I would like to make it look better and more inviting

Ohhhhhhhhhh boy! So great room, and you squizzed seats on a rug. Make it in the middle of room and make it wider, move sofa toward back wall a bit, increase seats between sofa and TV, make walking way, flowing from patio into home.

Does anyone sit in those chairs? I might get a cool bar for against the wall and have a cool wine rack and a beverage refrigerator for the parties you have.

What seems absent from the discussion is any context. Where does this room lie in relation to the rest of the house? Would using it as a dining space make sense? Do you even need that—how do you live? How many people live there and what ages? What do you all do and enjoy? Are you book people? Do the kids need a homework space? Do you play card or board games? Are you tv/movie people? Do you have big gatherings on game day? Without all that, all that will be given is great ideas for pretty spaces that potentially will have no use.

the room is a dead area next to the living room. I already have a dining room and a TV room which is adjacent to the room that we are discussing. as far as uses for the room I have none and don't necessarily need this extra space but would like to beautify it.

Ohh boy! I just only noticed that it is sectional! So switch two chairs by the patio door in my mock up with one.faced the patio door. and Now you can use all your chairs. :-))

Celery girl has a great idea. Flipping the room will also allow the couch to face the tallest wall. Some open shelves would look great where the tv is currently.

The first thing I’d do is flip the room. The higher-ceilinged area should be the primary one, and the other end can be secondary.

Then, you could put a table behind the sofa—deeper than a console table, almost a desk. Put two upholstered stools underneath. Now you have a second row of seating facing the tv, with a surface (for eating or whatever). I’ve seen this and it works great if you have kids (keeps their food off the couch). The remaining area can just be an aisle to the patio (put an occasional chair in the corner or whatever, to dress up the space).

I would get bigger square coffee table. Some idea.

If you are going to take the entire space to be a seating area, you need a larger rug. As long as you keep that rug, you are confined to that size seating area. Get a bigger rug and spread out to utilize the entire space. Then consider more seating - bench or a couple ottomans.

I'm no expert by a long shot, but I feel like almost no one in that configuration can reach the coffee table? But I don't know what the formula is for sizing or quantity of such tables.

The coffee table looks too small for your grouping. I agree with larger rug. Maybe another large sofa/sectional and much larger coffee table to fill the space

I like celery’s ideas. Flip the room, much larger rug, much larger coffee table. Use that coffee table as an end table. Less individual pieces as it feels too chopped up.
I still like my bar idea because of all your parties, but where the tv is now. It’s closer to the kitchen anyway.

From the original picture, it looks like the slider opens into an outdoor dining area, and to get to it from the kitchen you have to walk in front of the tv through the living room.

I’d move the tv and living room into the big empty area that has the curtained windows. Make the are between the kitchen and the outdoor dining area more of a casual place, with a bar/buffet against the wall where the tv is. You can set it up for drinks and appetizers, with storage for table linens or outdoor dishes and glasses. A couple comfy chairs and side tables for lounging.

I like celery girls mock-up with the furniture in the other are, although the seating area should be about 12x12.

I love it too! Could you supplement instead of getting rid of it? With such a big space, having multiple tables makes sense to me, so everyone to comfortably reach their drinks.

If you flip the room, consider what will happen to the TV with the uncovered lunette. You might be introducing unwanted glare on the screen.

I like the current configuration. I feel that the TV will seem lost on the larger wall if you flip it. The only thing that is bothering me about the current furniture arrangement is the blue chair adjacent to the chaise part of the sectional. Perhaps the blue chair could live in the corner by the draped window (or is that another slider?) with a small table next to it. That chair could then be pulled into the main seating area if needed when entertaining.

I actually agree that if I flipped the room the TV would get lost on the big wall.

I removed the teal chair and it actually looks much better!

I have decide to put a stone wall with electric fireplace on the tall wall opposite where the TV is now.....thoughts?
