The wood is of the Sallotics type. The white layer (a kind of packaging) that has been taken out of the cabinet is peeling but the wood is still in good condition. I don't know whether the paint or agnig will be suitable for this type of wood.

Sallotics? Do you mean 'shellac'? (Wild guess--lacquer finish...)

When I Googled 'Sallotics wood' the results came back as parquetry or some kind of Canadian manufacturing legal processes. Maybe a display case? None of us have a clue.

OH, I just Googled 'Sallotics' and netted Word Unscrambler. I'm still bumfuzzled over 'white layer' and 'packaging'. Maybe some kind of dividers for multiple pairs of shoes?
