Do you have option of putting bigger pulls on? I have 7 1/2 inch pulls on my 30” cabs.

I can only choose one size pull, and I have small drawers on the island. It was like pulling teeth just to get them to put knobs on the doors and pulls on the drawers. And they won’t leave them without hardware grrrr...

I would have them changed. I am lazy and do not want to use 2 hands to open a drawer.

You don’t need to use two hands if the drawers have any kind of decent drawer glide hardware on them.

Try to get used to it. It looks better than you think it does right now. If after s couple of weeks it still bothered you, have them order the drawer fronts. It’s not a big deal to change them out. It IS a big expense. And you don’t want to insist on that unless you absolutely can not like this. Tract builders have other ways of getting that expense back that are less visible, and that you won’t know. Until it bites you.

I think this looks nice. A five inch pull on a 30 inch drawer looks kind of silly, IMO.

Looks beautiful! Can you add a note that you have so many months after closing to swap in new drawers if these are a pain to use?

I see your point, Sophie. I don‘t really mind the way they look. Just not what I was expecting. I’ll ask my husband to load up a drawer and test the glides the next time he stops by.

I like your idea, luckyblueeye. Not sure they would go for that, but it might be worth a try.

I have two pulls on drawers > 27" and really like how they look. One pull would look "wimpy" on the wider drawers, IMHO, especially small pulls.

I always use one hand to open the drawers with two pulls and in 10 years have never had an issue with the drawers! That includes my 36"W pot & pan drawers under my cooktop.

As Sophie said, if you have decent drawer glides, it should not be a problem.

Do the drawers have good quality glides? 30" wide drawers tend to have a tendency to get heavy because they hold a lot. If you have good heavy-duty glides, you may be able to use one or the other of the 5" handles to open the drawers. Put some heavy stuff in them and try using only one handle. Another question: are the 5" handles large enough for your and your husband's fingers and hands?
I hope you specified heavy-duty glides. They are more important to ME than the handles. The handles do look good.

Buehl, good to know. I sort of agree now that the 2 pulls are on that 1 in the middle of the deeper drawers may look wimpy. Maybe this is one of those blessing in disguise mistakes.

I don’t know about the glides, felizlady. We may be upgrading those ourselves after closing.

I don’t think these look at all wimpy, and they appear to be smaller than yours. I’d go with the single centered pull for a cleaner, simpler look.

Caroline, upgrading the pulls yourself after the countertops go in is a pain. I did it in a bathroom once. Not fun. If you really want to upgrade, it might be best to do it now before the tops are in and the foundation settles and perhaps everything is not quite as square as it is now. If you can live with the two pulls, do you think the builder can do the glide upgrade/installation? We attempted to change the old glides with soft close on an old cabinet that was out of square. The tolerance is only 1/32. We gave up and went to a better glide, just not one that is soft close.

I have two pulls on my 42" drawers and I love the look. You do not have to use both pulls, in fact I never do!

I think one pull looks much better.

FWIW, on the advice of my designer I went with two pulls on my 30" drawers.

If your drawers glide smoothly now, I would not change out the drawers. You don’t know if the replacement drawers will glide as well or look as good as the original drawers.

I vote for the two pulls. One in the middle does look a little lost to me. I like how the two-pulls look adds to the overall design.
And good glides matter.

I would strike for a middle ground and keep the 4 holes on each drawer front , but look for a more reduced scale pull....5 in centers. I think a different look, without the extended ends: try a narrower diameter D shape , softer look, maybe coordinating slim shaped cup pulls on the top skinny drawers. I don't especially care for the pulls, but the two pulls approach is correct.

This is in a bedroom in our house. The middle drawers are 35” . Just for reference. I would leave the two pulls because to my eye they look just fine.

I like two pulls on bigger drawers. At least this is what I am doing. Your original pic looks nice to me. Not too busy at all.

Here's a picture of mine with one pull. I would like it either way. If you do one just 1 pull, I would upgrade to Blum. I've never seen a tract house with drawers instead of cabinet doors. That's great! My husband had to upgrade ours himself.

2 pulls on drawers 26" or wider, unless the pull is longer than 6". It will be a big expense that someone has to eat, most likely You.

I had no idea that builders dictate hardware size. That stinks.

I prefer 1 (one) pull on the drawers, which is what I did in my kitchen.

I went with 6" pulls on my 30" and 33" drawers and 8" pulls on my 36" drawers. My pulls have a design detail on the ends that adds 1.75" to the length.

Can you get the new drawer fronts and tell the GC you don't want any pulls? You can then buy slightly longer pulls and install yourself later. If you don't ask for a credit or money back, your GC will probably agree. Use blue tape to make some pull tabs until you get the pulls installed!

Caroline, I am so embarrassed. I meant to say upgrading the drawer glides were a pain to install not the darn pulls. If you want new pulls no biggie but changing the glides is indeed a pain especially with counters on. Sorry for the confusion.

Leave things as they are.

Would the contractor let you pay the difference between the short drawer pulls and the longer ones? If not, make a template and add them yourself, if you want the longer pulls. Personally, that would be my choice, but everyone has their own likes and wants. Good luck with your decision.
