The light on the left...is it the only light in the dining area? If not I would remove it. The picture I feel is to small for that wall...what if it was placed on the left wall, and then added a larger piece, at the head of the table. Your carpet should be larger for your table as well. If you want to keep the pic at the head of the table I would place something tall and decorative in the corners so that it took up some wall space and a tiny bit of the floor space.

You will be better off with fewer pieces on the wall. I suggest one or two larger pieces instead of so many small ones. It will be much more impactful. Consider one large wall hanging at the head of the table for maximum impact. It will also expand the small space.

Here's what you should do using what you have. Take the longer shelf and put it under the picture. (The pic is hung to high to keep alone.). Hang Approximately 4" above the table. Take the two small shelves and place them on both sides of the picture. Take the box out of the room all together and use the lantern on top if the table as a centerpiece. In place of the box in the corner, get a plant, like a palm or ficus...something to fill the corner.

I hope you have loads of fun with the redesign. The suggestion in regards to a larger rug I believe will make you and the room a happier place. If you have a big box home repair store near by, you might want to check them out. There are several that are having rug sales right now - under 200.00 for some nice rugs. As for lighting, I have found several hanging lamps that I have grouped together to use in a room with no over head lighting. Found at thrift stores, IKEA, and at yard sales. They are very inexpensive, just plug into wall, add a couple of cup hooks (which create very small holes that can be filled quickly with spackle when you leave) in the ceiling over your table. If you add a remote control to your hanging lights - like might be used during the holidays, a couple of bucks at the the big box stores, walgreens or walmart. It makes it easy to turn lights on/off. I Think the large lantern and yellow bird house would be great together on the table on top of a pretty scarf from a second hand store loosely bunched up in the same yellow and green colors. Perhaps a larger picture shelf running across the back wall, where you could group your Van Gogh, your other photos and your small objects together to show how special they are. I love your mirror with the hooks and cool box. Maybe another box or two, that you can stack on top of one another for more store and since it will be higher - a serving surface as well. Place then under the mirror. Question - is there a window across from this area? If yes, you could place a mirror on the back wall - as big as you can find - second hand store for sure. Will help reflect light and make the room look bigger. Good luck
