Yes. Add the width and depth together for overall width. With high ceiling you can use a tall fixture. So with 5x7 space a 12-14” wide fixture is ideal and depending on how it hangs in space it could be 25-45” high. Budget will be biggest limitation! Isn’t it always?! Lol. What style are you seeking?

I am sorry i mislead you. I misunderstood this was a landing. With a landing you need 7’ from floor to bottom of fixture. So that leaves 6’ for fixture. You want around 12” of chain or rod drop from ceiling so that means you have 60” for height of fixture. In looking at your photo it doesn’t look like ceiling height at landing is 13’. Can you verify that.

To me they both look rather bulky , for that space I would look for something like this one .

Hi Flo. thanks for your response. Yes it is slightly less than 13' it start s at the second floor which is an 8' heigh and then down to the landing .

Flo the fixture I have now is 24" wide and 24 " high. Window is 75" H 40" w.

Ive posted a couple more photos to help give a better idea of the staircase. Its 5 steps down from the second floor then a landing then another 7 steps down to the main floor. The ceiling to the landing is almost 13",, the fixture now hangs 91" from the landing to the bottom of the fixture.

Hi Flo, I checked yes the fixture sizes are correct. They are narrower at the top than the bottom. I am in Canada so not sure with the exchange how the price will be. Had planned to buy from Wayfair.

What kind of fixture do you have over your front entry?

Do you really want the light fixture for the landing to compete with your entry light?

Unless, of course, your objective is more to have a fancy light visible from the outside via that window than providing light, try thinking in terms of "mother and child" lights for the entry light and the landing light -- putting the more showy light in the entrance and the landing light -- clearly "related" -- having some same feature(s) -- over the landing.

sue bell thanks for your thoughts.the staircase is to the middle right of the the house so you can't see the entry lights. You walk down the entry hall about 20' before you hit the staircase to the right and if you look then you can see the light over the landing. It really stands on its own for the most part. The second floor hall fixture is in line with that staircase light. So from upstairs you look at both. Its a simple flush mount as the ceiling height is only 8'.

Okay I will post photos tomorrow of the staircase when the lighting is better. Thanks Flo and everyone for their ideas. I did double check and the height from the second floor ceiling to the landing is very close to 13',(there are 5 steps down to the landing) then from the landing you go down another 7 steps to the main floor.
