Multitasking I am making the pot do what I can't in real life. I had considered doing this 5 years ago But had plan to put in 3 PVC plumbing angles to plant my seeds inat the base of the pot. I just suck in a tomato sucker in a drain hole.

I was going to put PVC plubing 90 degree angles in the bottom of my 30 gallon pots years ago to plant peppers. I never did. I thought I would try this

Steve, I had strawberries growing out of the bottom sides of my containers this year :)

How did the strawberries do. Were they worth more than just water removal (fruit production?).

No fruit production from them, just to get rid of bottom water. I have couple pots dedicated to growing Alpine strawberries, they are small but very tasty, still putting out fruit.

I grew alpine strawberries 25 years ago. I agree that the are very tasty.. The seeds were very expensive about $10 for 100 seeds. About 30 survived and lasted about 5 years before all of them were killed by tiny white worms that ate out the cores of each plants, They were runnerless. I did not replace. Temperatures are about 5F higher now than back then. They would not survive now but were worth the try for the time they lasted.

Strawberry plants have very confined roots that will stay at the bottom of your pot to not compete with your trees. I will convert over to straw berry plants as my trees come inside.
