Close off 2nd floor catwalk to soundproof?

We are a growing family, and we are trying to stay in our current home as long as possible. The biggest issue is that our 2nd floor bedrooms are completely open to the living room and kitchen, so you can hear everything. After we put our child to sleep, we have to tiptop through the house for the rest of the night. We need to come up with a solution to soundproof the catwalk of the second floor. What are your thoughts? Would building a full wall all the way across solve the problem and look good?

They'll get used to the noise and be the better sleepers for it. Run a noise machine if you need to.

you will have HVAC issues if nothing else. the space was designed as a space, not as a corridor.

you say putting your child to sleep... and growing family. guessing here, do you have a toddler and a baby on the way? i remember those days... shhhh shhhh.... and then little brother or sister is born and the toddler sleeps through the baby crying all hours of the night. who'd a thunk it.

my advice, do not tiptoe. have grown up music on downstairs when your child's bedtime approaches, they will fall asleep to it.

My sister's friend used to purposely vacuum during naps to condition her baby so it could learn to sleep through noise.

No, it wouldn’t solve the problem, that would require a whole lot more than just building a wall because most noise travels through the stuff inside the walls and under the floors. I recommend a noise machine in their rooms for now and trying to get them used to more noise at an early age as you add more blessings. Personally, I had 5 kids in 4.5 years (yes, there is a set of twins, LOL!) and I found it helpful for my newborns to take their daytime naps in a bassinet in the family room where all the noise was. My kids are all teens and young adults now... it’s funny to hear them reminisce about bedtime when they were little, they fell asleep with certain familiar sounds, in their case there was a long time period where hubby and I would pop in our Seinfeld dvds when they went to bed. Hahaha! It’s a good memory for them now.

Our kids' room is about 12 feet from our booming sound system we use for watching TV after bedtime. This is essential.
