i like black and white check too... altho with the true red walls it can veer into a sock hop really quickly.

a friend with a similar dining room has gold and white horizontal awning stripes, and its stellar.

I think you could pull off any of your suggestions. Consider putting them only on the outsides of your windows, extending to the walls ... the inside draperies look a bit squished with the cabinet you have placed between them. If you do this, I'd do the black and white checked.

I would go with a bold red exactly like your walls. That would give you the privacy you want but wouldn't draw attention to the curtains. Now, if you want to draw attention to them, a check would be fabulous!
