I don’t know about the other three, but Black Oak is too nondescript. Do you have species names? BTW, a few pounds would be a lot of acorns. Can you share with us your plans?

Black oak is sometimes used to describe red oak species, but there is a black oak species, very similar to the northern red oak, but the bark is different, and the acorns are smaller.

Over the past 5 years I have been collecting and growing oak trees, from the acorns. It is an interest of mine, and I am using those to fill a 5 acre field.

Sounds like an interesting and worthwhile project. I think you’re probably looking for Q. velutina, but it is frequently confused with Q. ellipsoidalis. Add Q. coccinea to the mix and now you’re sowing seeds of confusion. I would try to get comfortable using botanical names to prevent as much confusion as possible.

I’ve got Q. ellipsoidalis if you’re interested. It is also known as Black Oak, Hill’s Oak, and Northern Pin Oak, which is another reason why botanical names are preferred over the colloquial.
