True. Could also be useful if you have plants, cats, or a need for a buffet. Most folks would probably remove it, but if you already have a lot to do, you could wait and see how you feel about it as you move your own stuff in. Removing it later will only be a small mess.

It's the perfect place for clearing off the mail and papers from the table before dinner. Or for the cat to watch birds. Or for buffet service. Try it for a few months.

I like the table and chairs, but everything else? The valance just blocks sunlight.

The shelf really makes no sense either do the 2 chandeleirs and for sure the wallpaper and the valances need to go.

We agree with removing the shelf, the wallpaper, and the other chandelier. You really only need one chandelier, and the shelf seems a bit odd in that space with the dining room table.

See how it goes, but if you need it gone to fix up the room, go for it.

The two chandeliers (and I like what I can see of them) suggest that the room was a more formal dining room at one point. When you don't have Alpine Ski Chalet high ceilings, you can't always fit in a single chandelier that is big enough for a long table, so you do two.
