Mirrors as wall decor

Hi! Newbie here. I want to hear your thoughts with mirrors as decorations. What mirror design can you recommend for a Scandinavian interiors? This is what the house will almost look like. What do you think will blend in? Frameless mirrors, lighted mirrors or DIY mosaic mirrors? Thanks!

Disagree a bit - I could see this style working

BTW, it's from My Scandinavian Home blog

I suggest that you follow your inspo instead. You can put artistic and calming artworks instead that will fit in you theme. If you really want putting mirrors, I think you should go with mosaic mirrors. Choose the design with not so bold tiles. Better look for local stores who manufactures mosaic mirrors or materials for DIY mirrors. Otherwise, you could visit companies like grand mirrors that allows mosaic mirror customization.

If you want mirrors, do it. Altho there are examples, mirrors are not typical for Scandinavian interiors, except in bed/bath rooms, or an entry way by the front door. But if you ask what people think, and don't like the answer, then, oh well, it's a public forum.

I just thought there are deep explanation to it or interior rules for that. Anyway, I like all the suggestions, It's really helpful and at least I knew what's better.

Hi Mark! Where can I find those mirrors? Thanks!

Yes, Janel. Grand Mirrors ships worldwide.

Well...unless you like to look at yourself, long and often, well chosen art may go further to enhance the interiors and create a unique and "personal" space, which you and visitors both enjoy. Scandanavian interors often feature art--see first photo.

I agree with having art rather than a mirror but if you are going to add one in one location, that mirror that oaktonmom posted has personality without being too much. JMO.

There's no such thing as "interior rules" when it comes to what to display on your walls. It's not like the Interior Design Police are going to stop by and cite you for a violation, right? Do what pleases YOU. That's the only thing that matters.

It depends on what the mirror is reflecting, if it’s your kitchen counters, that’s not a good thing. You want to see something worth seeing twice, like greenery outside a window or nice art etc.

Mirrors are often used to great advantage in traditional interior design. They are used to reflect light and to magnify something that is lovely. They are often gilded and quite ornate.

One simply doesn't see mirrors used decoratively very much in more contemporary design, especially Scandinavian design.

Er...the OP wrote, "...I want to hear your thoughts with mirrors as decorations..."

That's what the postings convey. What the OP asked.

And I've added MY thoughts, Virgil Carter Fine Art. Is there a problem?

Sooner or later, in almost every thread, someone comes along as says, "It's your house, so just do what you want to!"

That hardly helps someone posting and asking for advice and ideas.

One thing to consider when using mirrors is what will they show. If you are using them as art you also need to realize that the mirror will be showing something. How will that look. A well placed mirror that is showing a nice reflection of a view out the window can be really nice, but one that shows a door for example may not be as nice. Just make sure to position it so that the reflection that you will see from different angles also works.

My advice, Virgil Carter, was to use mirrors in her decor if that's her preference, as there are no "rules". I don't know how to make it any clearer than that for you, and I guess you'll just have to get over your issue with my input on this thread (which I perceive to be every bit as valuable as yours).

Hi Mark! Where can I find those mirrors? Thanks!

Bed, Bath, & Beyond has a 5-piece set for $30, that looks pretty close to what Mr. Mark posted. I'm sure other places have them, too; they're a very simple style. :-)

Hi! I appreciate all your suggestions, didn't mean to start something. So, basically I'm not a pro when it comes to home design. I just found a home inspo and asked everyone here. I might choose artworks instead if ever I won't find the best mirror. I'll update this post regarding the progress of the renovation and we'll ask your thoughts again! Thanks.

You didn't start anything, Janel. Most of us who participate here are not design professionals, but you will find a lot of helpful and thoughtful suggestions. Keep looking for items that inspire you and make you happy, and hang those things on your walls. While there are some generally accepted guidelines that have to do with spatial concepts, there really are no right or wrong "things" with which to decorate one's home. Please do share photos as you continue the process. Would like to see what you decide on.

I have a very small house, so I've used mirrors to help the rooms feel more spacious. I also have modest sized hanging mirrors in rooms near an exterior door, for a last check before you leave. I don't use them as deco for themselves, except for one that has a frame that I really like.

I used mirrors to make our house spacious too but I choose the decorative ones like Etch Mirrors by Grand Mirrors.
