Do you know how to make a slits in a fig tree to encourage more branches from the main trunk? I saw a Youtube guy saying he does it and his trees are LOADED with fruit and bushy but he doesn't show how to do it. If you know please let me know.

I like your concept. If it is to remain in a container, it is important to rotate it 90 degrees every cupla weeks or when you think about it; you will get more even growth.

John, I go along with that, just don’t like stragali looking trees and tree structure should be even on all sides. Stocky lateral branches reduce breakage.

This is what i am not hoping for. What had happen here is when you graft a piece of budwood that came from a tree that bore fruit already you need to pinch of fruit lets from your young tree and let the tree grow bigger first.Crooked trunk, weeping branches,not good.Tree too small.

After picking the fruit you might want to trim the top limbs shorter and then put a light just above the graft line for 6 hours after sunset to encourage bud sprouting trunk watersprouts. It works very well. Or T-Bud the trunk above the graft with buds from high up with the light on the base.
