I stopped in at a Lowe's today and they had all the Christmas lights out on display ... in September? Not sure where they plan to squeeze in Halloween and Thanksgiving? Maybe they had those out in July!

cbear33, we have the same seasons. Our state flower is the "orange cone". Our seasons are Winter, Still Winter, Almost Winter, and Construction. lol

To me it seems Christmas in stores gets earlier each year. Some even have it year round.

laurafhallen, I am with you. I am not a fan of Christmas either. Our At Home store is fully stocked for Christmas. The Dollar Tree was putting out the Christmas crap when I was there last week.

Fall? It was 90F here today in the LA area. The pumpkins would rot in a few days!

Happened to the orange orb across the street. She's already replaced it with another. Still humid here, so it may not be her last. lol

It is waaaay too early for that kind of nonsense. You'd think they were encouraging the cold weather. Bunch of nuts.

That's what I'll be doing next weekend. So sick of this heat! Hung a string of orange lights on the kitchen hutch and put a battery-operated string of lights in a glass jar along with a few mini pumpkins on the kitchen windowsill. Next weekend I'll hang lights around the exterior doors and put out the fake lighted pumpkins.

I have a Mr. Potato head that is dressed up as Dracula. I will put him on my end table. I also have a little BOO magnet I put on my fridge. Whew.. I'm exhausted just thinking about it. I might come back and post a pic. It's still too early. :)

Hilarious cbear33! I'm in Texas and though the heat gets crazy here, I still prefer summer with the longer days. I'm dreading the cold dark and dreary time of year!

It's always very warm here in SoCal well into October. I'm so DONE with the heat! I start buying pumpkins right around now, and have never had a problem with any of the outdoor ones rotting. They're pretty much in shade. We're surrounded by oak trees, and I worry about squirrels. Pesky little critters, but they've left my pumpkins alone...so far.

cbear33, your funny :) You would down right faint if you seen my Halloween decorations. I have the loft in my shed filled with Halloween decorations. It will take me a full day to put them up. And I gave a lot of them to my kids when I moved because I don't have a covered porch on this house for the electronic ones that couldn't get wet. Every year I say no more and already I bought 2 ghost. I'm hopeless. Of course my husband doesn't help, last year he bought a full size skeleton horse with skeleton rider for a surprise retirement/birthday present.

I got some out this morning and decided they looked so sad....threw one away that was "past it's prime" lol I put the witch and decorated pumpkins out.....plus a fall centerpiece....Will leave them for this year but I will see how I feel the first of December....

As a grafted in child and part of the commonwealth of Israel, I try to observe the Lord's decoration commandment in the 7th month (Sept-Oct) on the Gregorian calendar.

Thanks @functionthenlook and chloebud, I love seeing your wonderful fall decor and pumpkins too! Also, so fun to hear from fellow Fall enthusiasts. Most of my pumpkins are Cinderella pumpkins--they seem to be foolproof, and more importantly--last a very long time after harvest. One of those on the bench was accidentally broken from the vine at the end of July, it sat in the sun on the front porch through a 95 degree August and above 90 for several weeks in September too--still going strong. I expect them to be fine through November :) Happy Fall everyone!

chocolatesnap,Cinderellas are the best! My own experience has been most pumpkins will last a long time. As I mentioned in the first photo I posted, those little pumpkins are from last September. I've checked them often through the year for any spoilage but they've hung on. :-)

I am going to for sure try growing the Cinderellas next year. This is the first year I ever grew pumpkins. It has been a learning experience. This must of been a good year for pumpkins. Our grocery stores are selling nice big ones for only $3.

Wow, function, you don't see them for $3 around here. So far, I paid $6 for Cinderellas at Trader Joe's and Sprouts. I checked a nursery and theirs were $16...ridiculous.

$3 is just for the regular carving pumpkins. $16 no way.

I knew you meant $3 for the regular ones. So far, the cheapest I've seen for them is about $5 for medium to large. I think $6 is good for Cinderellas. My only complaint is most of them have no stems or maybe a nub. Pumpkins need good stems! ;-)

Trader Joe's is the best place to buy pumpkins; their prices cannot be beat. And the do get the blue and green ones in but those go fast; check frequently.

I bought some tiny and two large white ones that are on my dining room table. I also found a dramatic green and white one there and that sits on my coffee table. The rest are faux, some glass, some resin, some metal but all beautiful. This weekend I will finish up a smallish haunted vignette and the wreath. Very, very happy to have fall here. I adore the last three months of the year. Decorations in stores don't annoy me because it's easy to ignore them. I simply do my own things and enjoy it.

Even though it's 90°F (32°C) around my neck of the woods (zone 7), and probably will be for the next few weeks, pretty much everyone begins decorating for Fall by at least October 1st. So, I made a simple Autumn wreath for the front door. I need to fill my window boxes, but can't bear the expense knowing it's so hot everything will wither and die. Those will have to wait until late in the month or even early November. Happy Fall, y'all!

I flank my front door with loads of pumpkins. I really love all the gorgeous pumpkin varieties out there, heck I love the most boring pumpkins too. I just love pumpkins. Inside I have like autumnal flower arrangements and I have a few pretty glass pumpkins I put out this time of year. I used to put mums out front, but not any more, too many pumpkins probably. At Halloween I add a witchy wreath and a few crows perch on the pumpkin display.

I'm in on the pumpkin love too! And chloebud, those are some amazing stems in your pix. Now does anyone have a trick for keeping my green pumpkins from turning orange? I'm guessing I just can't have them outside in partial sunlight?

Ugh! It is so freaking hot here! 92 degrees today! It should be 75. I have absolutely ZERO interest in Fall or Halloween or anything! My pink begonias are blooming like they are in a fertilizer-filled hot house, my endless summer hydrangeas are off the charts, and the encore azaleas keep coming back like the end of a concert. It’s freaking July here. It’s too hot to even aerate and overseed our fescue lawn.

@chocolatesnap, it might depend on the variety of green pumpkins when it comes to turning orange. I've always liked regular, Jack-o'-lantern pumpkins that still have a lot of green. Those do tend to turn orange, especially in sun or bright light. They'll hold the green longer in low light.

These are some green ones I had last year that don't turn orange.

well, outside like you did can be nice but I hate seasonal decor inside my home.

We are warm also. The average high mid 60 s it has been running in the high 70s to low 80s. I should be starting to tear out my annuals by now, but everything is still blooming like it is august.

Thanks everyone for the green pumpkin advice: chloebud, those are beautiful--I think I will go buy a couple more and try scooting them further from the sun. I learned to decorate early for Fall when we lived in MN, where Fall definitely started early. Now, even though my climate is warmer--I still decorate early. It is like my personal signal that maybe, if I'm lucky, the kids will head back to college, and the house will calm down again. I mean, I love my kids; but by end of summer, I am SO DONE. Fall decor is like my Pavlovian signal that there is peace ahead :)

The only pumpkin I do is the ceramic one inside, in the window. Outside pumpkins quite often get smashed in the street in the night. Oh, the other pumpkins go into pie. I DO like to admire everyone else's fall decor.

Its still summer here; flip-flop weather and tee-shirts. We get fall around December when we have to put on a sweater; SF Bay Area.

Fall, fall is too generic in my world. I start in late August and spread apples about, come Oct I prep for all hallow's eve and November is all about the turkey!!
