Does it need to be granite or are you open to quartz?

What do you have in mind for the backsplash?

If you are fine with a plain backsplash, I might look at blue pearl granite. It’s inexpensive, not prone to stains, and has a fair bit of blue which seems both coastal and to work with your existing choices.

Your floor is a very cool gray (at least on my monitor) and the first two countertops you are considering are a warm brown - not a good mix. Either warm up the floor with a more natural floor choice or go cool on the countertops. There are some cool granites, but there is a huge selection among quartz. Personally, I would warm up the floor regardless, but that may already be a done deal.

Coastal house pallet the Giallo Vicenza is great idea. it will look awesome good. It will match the lifestyle of coastal house.

Your flooring is beigy-gray and the cabinets are white. Your granite should be selected to work with the flooring and the cabinetry. I would start looking at light-toned granites with white, gray, and tan in the markings. Stay away from the deep dark colors.

Thanks on the flooring, it’s LVP from Flooret and there are only so many color choices and we want to stay with Flooret. We had started with a very dark floor but after looking at inspirational photos we deemed that too dark. We have looked at Quartz locally but nothing really grabbed our attention. We have bought a set of 5 chairs for the island seating which are a beige earthtone color so that comes into play. The original choice for a backsplash was travertine tile. What attracted us to our original granite choice was the stone has a lot of movement and we could literally look into the stone. We would like to find a stone with those same qualities that will work with our floors, cabinets and coastal themed home. Any stone suggestions are more than welcomed.

I wouldn't have thought this but the suggestion of the blue pearl (or a dark similar granite) I think will actually work very well. I know first hand from living with something similar in our last house that it was a dream to live with. I originally had wanted a light granite, and still think it probably would have looked even more wonderful , but the dark looked really nice on light wood cabinets (and I am sure will look wonderful on your white cabinets)) and was so nice to live with. Nothing could stain, damage, show dirt.

I am building a lake house and these are some of my granite ideas. A lot of the lighter granites are too yellowish for white cabinets, so look for a granite that is more of a pure white.

Your photo where you show the cabinet color has pretty much the same floor as yours, if not the same one. The counters are light with the exception of the island. I wouldn't use the Giallo Vincenza, especially if you want a coastal look. The options posted above would be much better

River White granite will look amazing! I say with property about the Giallo Vicenza because I am born and raised in Brazil, by the coast, between Jacaraipe and Guarapari (02 famous beaches)... some beach houses and summer houses have Vicenza, Medina Brown or installed, they look refreshing, endurance, matches with getting home salty ready to prepare some food and take a shower...

BeverlyFLADeziner : run away from the engineered in this situation: coastal has lot of sun, UV through the windows will turn the engineered yellow; plus may bow the counters; plus this generation of engineered will soon get outdated...

glad the GV is out of contention... its just too heavy of a feel for the look you are going for

i would bring a cabinet door and sample of your flooring to the stone yard and go from there. we can easily make suggestions but you have to see the stone IRL to get a feel if it will work. granite names we throw out to you could be under a different name where you are located.

even bring your paint sample with you. with these three elements you will be able to make a more informed decision.

me personally, i would not go dark on the granite. if you are looking for a beachy, easy, airy feel, than dark granite is not it. go light, be sure its granite, and check the porosity of the stone, since light granites tend to be more porous.

also keep in mind what you will do for a B/S. you can also use your granite as your B/S. this is a great option since u would have no grout and cleaning would be a breeze. and all can be done in one trip, no waiting for tile setter :)

You already got the best advice- take your door, floor and paint to YOUR stone dealer. Granites have different names in different parts of the country. It’s best to see granites in person.

I have seen at my stone dealer what is pictured as River White and it does sound perfect for your colors. You need some tan/beige in the granite to pull in the chairs you described.
My last house has Blue Pearl. It’s a dream to live with and doesn’t stain. But it will be a dark, high contrast look. If you don’t want that, then go with the whites.

There are also beautiful colors in Cambria, which is durable but a bit “lighter” feel than granite.

Everything shows on dark granite and it is a bear to keep clean. Go light.

Blue pearl does not show everything and is no harder to keep clean than any other granite. It also doesn’t require sealing so it is lower maintenance than most light granites.

Be careful with the light “granites.” Many of them are actually marble. Nothing wrong with marble if that’s what you want, but it Stains if not sealed properly and etches even when sealed so you need to be prepared to accept it. (I say this as someone who actually choose marble for our last kitchen remodel.). For example, super white mentioned above is almost always really marble.

The “white” granites I saw that were not marble tended to be more grey or taupe than white and they had garnets in them, which are very pretty but I thought quite limiting in terms of colors.

Personally if I wanted white counters I would be looking at quartz or corian and some really fun blue and/or green backsplash tiles in ceramic or glass I do not think travertine backsplash is at all coastal

I suggest reading the countertop geology threads here with a real geologist explaining how to test slabs so you know what you are getting. Be aware that stone yards mislabel things all the time.

Also, nail down your countertop before you choose your furnishings. You really do not want to limit your somewhat permanent and expensive counter choices based on relatively temporary and inexpensive furnishings.

I managed to find an inspirational photo of a white kitchen with Blue Pearl Granite. However, floor was a different color. A fast 5 minute photoshop job and added the actual floor into the lower left side of the photo. Opinions ?

Personally, I think the Blue Pearl looks too heavy with that floor and cabinet combination. I love contrast, so I think the countertops and cabinets are fine together. It is when you add those lighter floors in that it just doesn't work.

Thanks, here is the original photo. It's not easy LOL. We don't want to end up with a floor that's too dark and we don't care for the color floor in the original photo at all.

Are you open to a different floor or pretty set on that one? It is a nice colored floor, I just don't think it works with that cabinet/countertop combo.

Giallo Vincenze Granite is awful - very dated and definitely NOT the right color for those floors or a coastal look. There are not many options in granite for a coastal palette, I agree that quartz will open up a ton of great choices. I have 3 cousins with beach houses and each put in quartz counters, and they look fabulous.

River white granite always has the little raspberry spotting all over it, which I find unattractive. You may not mind that. Colonial white could be a good option, you just have to find a slab you like as they can be quite different with a lot of variation.

I would stay away from 2 suggestions above - the Princess White is not (I don't believe) a granite, It is usually sold as a quartzite, but is mostly marble, and behaves as such. Super White is the same thing - sold as a quartzite but has more marble properties.

Floors are set, Flooret has only so many choices we like. I’ve done a lot of reading and not changing companies, very happy with them. I really do like the contrast with Blue Pearl and didn’t think I would really.

My SIL has the blue pearl and is already sick of it. FWIW. I agree on the bringing the door and floor sample to a stone yard. I can give you a couple suggestions that go with both your floor and cabinets but ultimately it will be what strikes your fancy. I also agree the Giallo Vincenze is too heavy and looks dated (sorry). I live on the coast and had this on my counters: Bianco Antico

Thanks, we may consider changing cabinet colors as well. The whites are nice for sure but none of which pop if you will.

gris perla could be nice -- it's granular like the example you liked, rather than having large movement, and it combines whites, grays, and tans.

Check River White for staining first - IIRC it's one of the more porous varieties.

Reelsneaky we are building a home and I too wanted white cabinets and trying to figure out what kind of stone, colors, and cabs to match. Haven't even broken ground yet but already looking.

Giallo Vincenze may be past its prime...colorwise.

I like the blue pearl idea, if it's honed or leathered. I love my honed black granite, but there are plenty of posters here who don't care for dark counter, so depends on what you like!

That said, I think light could be nice too. Definitely research any light granite or quartzite so you know what you're getting with staining, etc.

Another nice stone with the finishes you have would be Fantasy Brown -- it's got movement rather than being granular, but it looks lovely with whites, tans, and grays. Very inexpensive too.

Fantasy brown is beautiful but it is marble so more porous.

Fantasy Brown looks gorgeous when leathered. if you like that look.

We pretty much looked at all of the suggestions and then found inspirational photos of those with white cabinets. We wanted a stone that speaks to us so to speak and while they’re all nice in their own way, only one of those “spoke” to us. We’re going to go with the Blue Pearl GT. For us, it works and gives us a great contrast which we love and the properties of the stone are just what we are looking for. Thanks for all of your input !
