Is there any furniture you've got already or blank slate? TV? Are you interested in two separate seating areas (ie. cozy pair of chairs / tv viewing)?

Blank space. The ceilings are 9' so it poses quite the challenge. Any existing decor we had doesn't work in the space.

2 separate spaces would work in this area.

I've done this type of space before. I treated the fireplace NOT as the focal point. Here's a photo...as an example. They do this a lot in Europe. I'd make a TV viewing area with the TV/bookcase if useful on the wall on the other side of the staircase. On the other side of the fireplace closest to the windows, I'd do swivel chairs and a small table in between.

I am thinking of putting a sofa table at the front window in the middle. 2 large chairs with a rug in front of that to the left of the fireplace. A sectional or 2 love seats? on the other side and a tv/floor cabinet and floating shelf above across from that grouping. We like contemporary/industrial style. My thought is to keep large furniture neutral and solid with the patterns limited to the rugs, curtains and throw pillows.
