Looks nice and clean! maybe just add a decorative‘bowl and small plant to the table. It’s hard to see the light fixture in the pictures, but might be fun to add some interest there.

You need some accessories. Choose a color from the room beyond the entry and get a couple of vases or ceramic pieces for on or under the console. Also a small lamp. Get a few small paintings for the wall.

It looks like a black and white photo. No color, no personality. The wall color is so sad and depressing. Needs some color in rug and art and accessories. Lamp?

Is the door going to hit the table when it's open? It doesn't really look like you have enough room for the table.

The mirror frame can be painted a strong color, then add colorful items on the table (a bowl to hold keys, a vase for fresh flowers). It’s too monochromatic.
If you like red, orange, yellow or bright greens, those colors will help liven it up.

I like the look of the light rug, but if it doesn't sit flat on the floor, you will have a serious tripping hazard at your front door.

A hanging lantern pendant would add a lot of style

The new rug is too small for the space. I like the color, but the old rug fits the space better. Agree that some brightly colored accessories on the consul table would help pull everything together and make it less monochromatic.

Great start! Get some carpet tape to hold the rug edges down- that will eliminate the tripping hazard. Add some life with a low light plant like a snake plant on the console and a basket for assorted “out the door”items underneath. Depending on your color preferences, add a bowl or tray for keys and mail, and finish up by carrying that color up the wall with some art or photos. My favorite place to shop is the rest of the house, I’m always moving bits from one place to another for a little no-cost redecorating!

The door is going to smack into the table every time you open it, knocking its contents around. The only solution i can think of is to secure a floor bumper to stop the door. Love the new rug.

I like the idea of painting the mirror trim a color. Maybe put a shallow basket with an interesting color under the table. A tall colored wooden candle stick and a bowl or plant on the table to finish it off.
A wooden coat rack to the right of the door would be nice too, but it may cover your vent.

Also, I like the new rug color but the original rug size looked best.

I'd keep it simple. I agree with those that say the door may hit the console, but if your like me, I rarely use the front door!

The old rug could be centered with no table there and it just looked more balanced imo...

I think a tall, thin, geometric stained glass lamp on one side of the table, picking up on your door window, and in multi-colors, would add a lot, but do keep space on that table for people to set things down. Crowded entry tables lose their function. And simplicity here is nice.

Another vote for liking the old rug better.

The rug was taken out of the packaging prior to the picture so it now had had time to settle and is laying flat. I don’t think it will be a trip hazard but carpet tape was a great suggestion.

I’m confused about the proper rug size because in my last post people commented that my rug was too big. The old rug was 5x7 and the new rug is 4x6

The door has room to open and does not hit the console table. My family does not use this entrance as we have a mud room off the garage. So this entrance is only used by guest.

I agree the space could use some colour but I really love simple monochromatic spaces so I’m alway reluctant to add lot of colour. I have pops of navy in the living area attached so perhaps I could try and pull in some navy accent pieces? I’m not sure what to put on the console table. The table is very narrow. I like the idea of a plant.

The light is a semi-flush mount. Unfortunately the open lantern I tried hangs too low and the door would hit it.

Everything you’ve chosen is very nice. The ideas lovestodecorate have you given you for decor are perfect. A tall slim vase at one end, small plant for some added greenery and a low bowl for keys etc.

Like the size and color of the darker brown rug with cream pattern much better … and it isn't curling up on the corners trying to trip someone like the other one … but then, there are rug grips for that problem.

How are you wanting to use any furnishings you add -- a place for coats and other accessories or just for creating a welcoming visual? If having it look inviting is your objective, don't add any furniture and add only art or you could add a mirror w/shallow floating wall shelf beneath it.

You need color to give give the room some personality. It seems to me you a like a neat clean look so i would just add a green floor plant to the right of your door. Just that will totally change the look of the room and give it some life! I’m not a big fan of the rug though, i don’t love the washed out color of it, and it doesn’t flatten on the floor.

Coming along. One small suggestion. Paint the trim around the door same black as door. It will give your door more "presence" and make it look wider. I worry that table is too long for the space. Can it be had in a shorter version? Since you really aren't going to use as a "drop" station, I think I would do something smaller perhaps even a wall mounted shelf type piece.

The scale and simplicity of the first arrangement shared by kulrn...the one with a tall green plant on the right and a small pop of red on the left, is perfect!

The color and style of the new rug provide a subtle contrast with the other colors, tying them all together quite tastefully. The rug is definitely not too small! If anything, it is too large. Based on all that I’ve read, an equal amount of flooring--no less than six inches, but preferably 8-12, should be showing on all sides.

I would leave the door trim as it is, so there is continuous flow with the rest of the trim which you likely have throughout the house. That is an important design element. It all looks very tasteful.

Something like this only smaller scale would be great. this is beautiful but pricey. But you can find some that are reasonable facsimiles.

I also would consider a more narrow rug. Sorry, just not feeling the rug.

The rug doesn't look 'nice and clean'; it looks worn out and dirty. And it's clearly faked aging, like distressed finishes on new kitchen cabinets or fake worm holes spattered on all that pecan furniture from North Carolina.

Why do people buy such things (unless Home Goods had a big sale)? Whatever happened to buying nice things and letting them age naturally?

I think you are missing organic elements and texture. If you don’t want to introduce color you could find a flush mount light fixture perhaps with a leaf of other natural motif in silver. You could add a faux topiary or real plant (if you are good at caring for them). Basically everything you have is sterile and angular, so rounded or irregular-shaped items and a bit of nature would help. Your palette is completely neutral so any color could be added. Long colorful prints on either side of the front door could be nice and dramatic. Also, if you celebrate Christmas this entry would be perfect for a candy cane (white, black, red) motif.

I just saw your comment about using navy. I would suggest you use more of a Prussian Blue or another blue lighter than navy. It will transition nicely to
navy but won’t be boring. Navy won’t stand out next to black.

As this entry is only used by guests, the table serves no function. I’d hang the biggest artwork I could find on the wall instead, and let that add color and personality. It could be anything, even a tree branch with an interesting shape. This is a little used room, there’s n need to clutter it up.

I would try a floating shelf instead of the console table. For a pop of colour, use succulents planted in a colourful pot.
