My Hadeco bulbs just arrived! Did anyone else get their bulbs today? Mine are in nice and healthy big and firm, with loads of white roots

    Kristi, what did you order?

We all want to know what you ordered! We'll live vicariously through you! My bulb order from another company has only bulbs that I've had before (Gervase, Flamenco Queen, Splash, La Paz and a jumbo pink). Not very exciting... but adding some old favorites back into the collection.

I order a few each of just 5 varieties, and then they provided a free H. Alfresco. I ordered: H. Saffron, Juniper, H. Swazi, H. Manula, and H. Razzle Dazzle.

Where did you order them from?

Love your choices and I would add an Imbali! Maybe next year if I can find the room, I'll place an order but this year like others, I'll live vicariously through your pictures!! Perhaps next year a distributor in the states will offer a few of them! But then we run the chance that they will get all mixed up as we well know!!

My Thai Thai is still alive but not thriving but alive is better than not!! I actually put it in a whiskey barrel for the summer hoping that it would fatten up but it didn't. I'm afraid I had it planted too near the edge of the barrel on the shady side of the barrel and I kept the soil level down about 6 inches so I'm afraid that it got too much shade especially when the sun got lower in the sky. If it lives through the winter, I'll plant it right in the middle of the barrel next year!! Most all of my other bulbs did fatten up; some of the Komoriya bulbs did quite well. Last year one of my barrels was directly in the line of one of John's sprinklers and was constantly wet and most all of them rotted but this year we covered this barrel when the sprinklers were on and I didn't lose a one!! Live and learn!

I ordered directly from Hadeco Josh.

Donna, I have lost many due to rot. The greenhouse has been a challenge: Heat (black shade cloth) first year (now beige), then army caterpillars and mealy bugs. They do much better out on the side yard. I may start that practice again next spring and only put them in the greenhous over the winter.

Donna, you know how Hadeco availability changes! I don’t recall seeing Imbali when I placed my order. It is pretty.

I don’t think Living Gardens is selling amaryllis any longer, are they?

Nice, Kristi, hope you'll share pics when they bloom.

Donna, Imbali is nice but like you, maybe next year :) -

    Hi Kristi,

I’m so happy to see you posting! Sorry to hear about your greenhouse challenges.

I just got home from Mendocino and found my Hadeco order sitting on my doorstep. I ordered all the new releases: Juniper, Saffron, Dragonfly, Marula, Imbali, Swazi, Samburu, Daiquiri, the old variety Harlequin, and received reliable favorite Alfresco as a gift. I know that, like me, you didn’t buy new bulbs last year, so these bulbs are exciting and most welcome.

    Big hugs,

    Blanca

Mendocino is one of my favorite places! When I was growing up, my parents owned property on the Navarro River and we camped there throughout the summer. We'd sometimes drive to Fort Bragg and Mendocino.

Blanca, I hope your new bulbs grow and bloom well too!

Thanks, Tina! I’m really looking forward to working with these new South African varieties and adding genetic diversity to my breeding program.

The weather in Mendocino was gorgeous and remarkably warm. Brought home two King Salmon and a halibut; sustainably caught and filleted by some amazing fisherwomen whose boat docks in Noyo Harbor.

Kristi and Blanca, We all can't wait to see you both post pictures when they bloom!! We needed some new varieties to look forward to this coming season!!!

Blanca, for several years my dad and I would go salmon fishing together on a boat that docked at Noyo Harbor. It was a father-daughter bonding trip we'd take for his birthday. I almost got myself thrown overboard because I was joking with my dad that I was going to tell the animal rights activists at Berkeley (I was attending UC Berkeley at the time) that they were smacking the salmon on the head with a bat (I was fishing, clearly I wasn't involved in animal rights activism). My dad's friend overheard the deck crew talking about what I'd said and they were concerned. My dad's friend had to intervene and explain it was a joke! LOL In my experience, the best weather in Mendocino is during the shoulder seasons. One of the most beautiful, warm days I've spent in Mendocino was on an Autumnal Equinox.

I can't wait to see photos of everyone's blooms! I've discovered my plants aren't safe at the front of my house. Recently, 6 pots of amaryllis had fallen from a ledge and/or the leaves had been smashed. The neighbor children's basketball was nearby. *sigh* Time to move everything to the backyard. They're not necessarily safe there either... the neighbor kids have decided my yard is theirs too!

    Hi,

Who did you order from, may I ask?

    Hadeco

How do you do that? I din't think it was possible to order directly from Hadeco?

    T. Tran from what I understand they sell in bulk to wholesellers or resellers. I’ve gotten them from the resellers here in the U.S. like bloomingbulb.
