Do not go over existing floors with more hardwood/engineered. You'd have yo tear it out the old one first. Going over will not correct the squeaking.

I would see if there is a way to take care of the squeaky floors from either in a basement, or under the house in a crawl space. No, you really cant go over them, and expect the squeaks to stop, you will still have squeaky floors. I am also pretty sure, your hardwood you already have is a better quality than an engineered floor would be, so if it is able to be refinished, I would absolutely go that way.

10 years should not be through that finish. You do not need refinishing. You may do a screen and recoat if you like what they were finished with 10 years ago.

they're actually a red oak so with no stain there very orange. I want a brown stain to deepen the color and get rid of that awful Orange. thanks for the advice on the squeaky floor part and I think in the end it's going to be cheaper to refinish. Thanks for the great advice!

Sheri Fortner , Have your floor finisher make some samples for you. That can show you what the floors will look like when refinished.
